Keith (M) Posted November 24, 2016 Share #3463 Posted November 24, 2016 Keith you have eye glasses ? http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/Leica/Leica-M3/Leica-MP/MP-chrome-058x/index1.htm Rg H. Hi Henry, yes I do and the 0.58 means I can see the frame-lines for 28mm quite easily. I use the MP for 28 & 35mm, my M7 for 50mm and longer.
Mute-on Posted November 24, 2016 Share #3464 Posted November 24, 2016 I don't wear glasses, and use a 0.58 MP with a 35 Summaron. This leaves some breathing space around the frame lines, similar to a 50 on a 0.72 finder. The added benefit is no distracting 135 frame lines. I did buy the 0.58 with a view to getting a 28 Elmarit. I'm nearly there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
NB23 Posted November 26, 2016 Share #3465 Posted November 26, 2016 0.58 makes the whole image SMALLER. This helps because the whole image snaps at one quick glance. No need for the eyes to wander from left to right as it kills the moment and composingmis much harder. That's why I prefer 0.58. Composing is a breeze and everything snaps at a glance.

Paulus Posted November 27, 2016 Share #3467 Posted November 27, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) before everybody takes the plunge in this kind of 0.58 finders: I used to have one, next to my 0,72. I know that the 0,58 is only realy practical if you only use wide angle lenses only and maybe a 50 summicron er elmarit. For all other lenses it gives problems with focussing IMHO. NB23 Posted November 27, 2016 Share #3469 Posted November 27, 2016 Yours too, like mine, has a BP flash hot shoe and BP Shutter roundell (or whatever it is called). You only miss the Black counter DSC_0007-2.jpg Here is my MP, also with 0.58 finder. I sold my MP with 0.72 finder and replaced it with that one. nikau Posted November 27, 2016 Share #3470 Posted November 27, 2016 Here is my MP, also with 0.58 finder. I sold my MP with 0.72 finder and replaced it with that one. Couldn't be happier. One advantage of the .58, I have found, is that if you want a "bigger" viewing area when using longer focal-length lenses, just fit a viewfinder magnifier. I have Leica's own 1.25x as well as an excellent Japanese 1.33x with dioptre adjustment. But it's not as easy if you have an .85 and want to go the other way!

Well, that was my fear before selling the 0.72 and getting the 0.58. But I found it easier than expected. I regularly get good shots not only with the 50mm summilux at 1.4 and 0.7 meters, but also with the 90mm Macro-Elmar at f/4 and 0.8 meters. It is true that you have to be careful, but I found it not too bad at all. A Noctilux will be here by the end of this week, so we will see if what I say is true for f/1 without any more magnification.
Guest )-( Posted November 28, 2016 Share #3473 Posted November 28, 2016 Last shot on the roll in poor light but... those blurry boxes are cameras! MPs! I prefer the feel of the chrome in the hand (mine is 0.85, the black paint 0.72) but no big deal, the colours were just those available second-hand as and when... Welcome, dear visitor! Doc Henry Posted November 28, 2016 Share #3476 Posted November 28, 2016 (edited) Koush for me not big difference between magnification 0.58 and 0,72 for the 90 Macro Elmar and I prefer 0.72 for this lens (look at the picture below) I have this lens and also the 90 Apo Summicron Asph. I use them without magnifier (x1.25 I don't use) Not needed Welcome, dear visitor! Guest Posted December 3, 2016 Share #3479 Posted December 3, 2016 I have an aversion to half-cases. Ralph Gibson in a talk said that he didn't like half-cases — in particular, he disliked the way the half-case muffled the sound of the shutter: he preferred to hear the shutter fully so that he could hear if the he had it set to a speed off from the speed that he wanted. _______________ Alone in Bangkok essay on BURN Magazine

There in my billingham bag I take the camera out right away and it's protected. When there is no road, we walk on mountain tracks Agree with Ralph Gibson. Nice cameras SMKoush,Coogee and Juppm (camera well patinated) Best Henry Edited December 3, 2016 by Doc Henry
