Another 0.58. Paired nicely with a 28mm f/2.

I don't wear glasses, and use a 0.58 MP with a 35 Summaron. This leaves some breathing space around the frame lines, similar to a 50 on a 0.72 finder. The added benefit is no distracting 135 frame lines.

I did buy the 0.58 with a view to getting a 28 Elmarit. I'm nearly there :)

0.58 makes the whole image SMALLER. This helps because the whole image snaps at one quick glance. No need for the eyes to wander from left to right as it kills the moment and composingmis much harder.

That's why I prefer 0.58. Composing is a breeze and everything snaps at a glance.

Here is my MP, also with 0.58 finder. I sold my MP with 0.72 finder and replaced it with that one. Couldn't be happier.

before everybody takes the plunge in this kind of 0.58 finders: I used to have one, next to my 0,72. I know that the 0,58 is only realy practical if you only use wide angle lenses only and maybe a 50 summicron er elmarit. For all other lenses it gives problems with focussing IMHO.

One advantage of the .58, I have found, is that if you want a "bigger" viewing area when using longer focal-length lenses, just fit a viewfinder magnifier. I have Leica's own 1.25x as well as an excellent Japanese 1.33x with dioptre adjustment. But it's not as easy if you have an .85 and want to go the other way!

Understood, however some of wear spectacles where the .58 is all that works properly.

Well, that was my fear before selling the 0.72 and getting the 0.58. But I found it easier than expected. I regularly get good shots not only with the 50mm summilux at 1.4 and 0.7 meters, but also with the 90mm Macro-Elmar at f/4 and 0.8 meters.

It is true that you have to be careful, but I found it not too bad at all. A Noctilux will be here by the end of this week, so we will see if what I say is true for f/1 without any more magnification.

Last shot on the roll in poor light but... those blurry boxes are cameras! MPs!

I prefer the feel of the chrome in the hand (mine is 0.85, the black paint 0.72) but no big deal, the colours were just those available second-hand as and when...

Hi All, something useful to read (Kenrockwell) :

Rangefinder Base Length:  Rangefinder Magnification:  Effective Base Length:

IIIf (screw-mount)                    38mm                                        1.5x                                       57mm

M3                                          69.25mm                                    0.91x                                     63mm

0.85x                                      69.25mm                                    0.85x                                     58.9mm

0.72x                                      69.25mm                                    0.72x                                     49.9mm

0.58x                                      69.25mm                                    0.58x                                     40.2mm

Best

With a Noctilux, every shot is a gues. Theoretical every shot is " impossible" .

Koush for me not big difference between magnification 0.58 and 0,72 for the 90 Macro Elmar

and I prefer 0.72 for this lens (look at the picture below)

I have this lens and also the 90 Apo Summicron Asph. I use them without magnifier (x1.25 I don't use)

Not needed :)

I have also the Noctilux f:1 but it's too heavy and I prefer my Summilux Asph 50

I have an aversion to half-cases. Ralph Gibson in a talk said that he didn't like half-cases — in particular, he disliked the way the half-case muffled the sound of the shutter: he preferred to hear the shutter fully so that he could hear if the he had it set to a speed off from the speed that he wanted.

My MP is all naked, it's convenient when you have a backpack full of medicines and syringes

(that's what happened during my last medical humanitarian mission in SE-Asia)

If we also have the strap on the camera, we will mix the backpack straps with camera strap

and we risk missing "the right time" as Jean Cartier Bresson manner :) and I risk falling with

the cam. There in my billingham bag I take the camera out right away and it's protected.

When there is no road, we walk on mountain tracks

Agree with Ralph Gibson.

Nice cameras SMKoush,Coogee and Juppm (camera well patinated)

Best
