Sorry, I bored you Mr. fine art photographer of the year.

I don't think anyone needed yet another discussion about the supposed superiority of the M9 sensor - especially as the only change (other than dimensions) from the M8 sensor was slight tinkering with the color filters. Other than that (as discussed in LFI) the better high-ISO performance comes from in-camera post-processing.

Nice lens on the MP!!

nice brassing and nice picture, cruising string lady...

She was Cute. I saw her coming from far and actually shot a pic of her while coming towards me but couldn't find the print.

And she, sadly, wonderfully ignored me while pedaling-by.

I like to think it's because I was Super extra stealthy thanks to my Dotless-Leica MP but the truth is that she's probably used to dudes photographing her String :)

I love my MP too! Have a M7 black so really wanted a silver MP. Here it is with my 50 lux. Taken with my iPhone (shameful!)

4 rolls in, my BP example is starting to brass on the corner above the viewfinder.

That's crazy! I've run about 250 rolls through my BP MP and I don't have any edge brassing. The only places where my camera has lost paint is film advance, rewind lever, rewind knob and the edges near the latch to take off the base plate. Mine gets shoved in a bag when I stop to eat, but it stays around my neck the rest of the time... no half case.

My 5 year old MP has a tiny bit of brassing on the very end of the film advance lever, a bright patch (but no paint loss) on the top plate in front of the shutter speed dial, due to my one-fingered shutter adjusting habit with the camera at eye level, and that's it. I never use a padded case or camera bag. When not in use, ie when it's not around my neck, I put it into an Exped drybag with filters, film etc and then shove it into a backpack with lenses in their leather cases, sometimes with camping gear and other assorted stuff on top of it all.

I might try dragging it behind the car. :-D

Brassing on the BP MP and BP M8.2 is really a factor of the individual persons transpiration secretes and the especially soft paint of these two cameras.

My M8.2 looks very brassy after 1 year of daily use, although I treat all my stuff very gently (not throwing, bumping around, etc…).

My BP MP is really not used much (just a few dozen rolls) - I use mainly digital these days, while the MP is not my only film body and not my preferred at that (the M7 is so much better as a user).

The lightly used MP brasses at the advance lever, frame preview, rewind lever and the edges of the rewind knob already.

Would it be my main camera, I fear, it might be stripped already.

I added a MP advance lever to my chrome M6 classic and will use this more again - is a lot smoother than any MP I tried anyway (and has the much better crank rewind) ;-)

Well I'm glad I have BP friendly sweat. My MP is just as smooth as the four M2 bodies I've owned over the years. Your MP will become smoother with more use. If you decide to use it. You could always have it repainted. I honestly can't imagine owning an MP and not wanting to use it over any other Leica M body. They're priced to earn their keep.

I agree that the whole point of owning an MP is to use it. As for having to 'earn it's keep', well, mine hasn't earnt a penny for me and probably never will. I have a cupboard full of Nikon dslr's that earn their keep (and my entire living) far more efficiently than any current Leica could.

I bought my MP because it is the last film camera I will ever buy and, in my opinion, is one of the best 35mm film cameras ever made, especially of those made by Leica. The pleasure I get from using it justifies my purchase.

The idea of paint wear being relative to one's bodily secretions is interesting. Could it be that some users of black MP's are giving away their personal hygiene habits? :-)
