They all look very clever, but one thing I value is being able to extend my index and change speed

I'm wondering if the soft release impedes at all???

Any comments?

I use the Tom Abrahamsson softie and change speed with the release finger. It does not impede, in fact the opposite, because I release using the second finger joint which places the finger tip exactly on the speed dial and facilitates both mechanical actions. YMMV etc etc.

See Tom showing how on a nicely brassed Leica here:-

RapidSofties

No connection, economically, to Tom but he is currently producing a limited edition (100) yin/yang version being discussed on another rangefinder site which I rather like given I will use on both digital and analog cameras :D

When I fitted a soft release to my MP a few years ago, the feel of the shutter release changed completely. Without it, the shutter button has a smooth and unrestricted progression. With the Softie, the shutter release had a 'gritty', impeded feel which was very annoying.

I binned the soft release

A friend gave me a "Joy of M" soft release that I stopped using because I kept accidentally tripping the shutter.

I haven't been able to use my new addition much since I bought it, but I did use it today at Heathrow.

I love the back to basics thought process required. Less really is more.

I'm going to enjoy using this, I just know it.
