Time for a bit more MP(orn) :D

Courtesy of Forum member "Koray" I have recently (re-)acquired a Lens Carrier-M. It will occasionally reside under my MP4 when the need arises. The lens shown is one that will be carried in this way, the 90mm Collapsible Elmar. This particular example is one that I bought cheaply with "fogging"; I then took it apart and it is as clean as a whistle.

The braided strap was made for me by "imported_peter_m" of this parish, and the leather grommets are my own devising, as a precaution against scuffing.

This setup will accompany me during the Summer, together with a 35mm in one pocket and some film in the other.

Happiness.

Regards,

Bill

Nearly as nice as a M2:D, and easier to use admittedly with the lightmeter.

Happyness = walking around with a Leica M, film or digital, and nothing else on your mind. Life is so simple sometimes.

Peter, you may find this site interesting. Tom Abrahamsson who designed and made a "rapidwinder" whilst Leica were in the phase of not making them a few years ago.

He also makes one for the M2, which Leica do not, and it allows the use of self load IXMOO cassettes which is a serious "IMHO" shortcoming of the current MP offering. RapidWinder.com Home

Chris thank you! :) Actually I had a couple of Tom's Rapidwinders for a few years but sold them and bought Leicavits. For some reason I was just happier with the handling of the Leicavits and was never really too keen on the Rapidwinder locking mechanism either. It was a bit of a sacrifice for me because I use his Rapidgrip and of course it works well with a Rapidwinder but not with a Leicavit.

i have an m9, which i love, but i still want to have a film camera as well. right now i have an old canon new f1 plus lots of fd and fl lenses which i am looking to sell to help fund buying a used leica film body -- m6 or mp. all the talk in this thread makes an mp especially appealing to me -- but a used m6 is less expensive. is there a strong argument that can be made to pay up for an mp vs and m6?

And the fact that you know that you will end up buying one, one day, any way.

A bit like buying a 35 Summaron. You know you really want a Summicron, but can't quite afford it at the time. So you buy twice, instead of once.

I second the "buying twice argument".

Beyond that is a "package" of things, you get with an MP, you do not get with a M6.

- black paint

- better meter than M6 and nicer shutter speed dial than M6TTL

- better finder than M6

These are the reasons, why I lusted after one.

You could argue, that one could get these things partly by having an M6 modified or by finding one of the special edition BP M6 second hand, but you could also just go straight for the real thing.

There are of course also arguments against an MP, for an M6:

- rewind crank vs rewind knob

- M6 is lighter to carry (not brass)

- M6 hurts less, when lost

Btw, the beaten saying, that an MP is smoother and feels mechanically more precise than a M6 is a hoax. My M6 feels smoother than any MP, I have handled so far.

Originally wanted a used MP but ended up swapping for a new in box MP Classic instead.

My 2nd M body was a black MP but sold it to fund for a M8 a few years back. Been missing it since then.

Nothing wrong with that although I went the other way, cron first then ron. Can never have enough 35s

It's interesting to note that MPs still have the Leicameter groove in the shutter speed dial, even though they have a built in meter. I'd not noticed that before.

If you're referring to ZoomP's MP, it's an MP Classic. No meter.

Explains the meter groove on the shutter speed dial.
