We have the same setup, only i m a type of guy who dont tinker, so the mag stays regardless which lens i use 😂 I only use the 1.4x magnifier with my 50mm, 75mm and 90mm summicron lenses. I mainly use the c-sonnar at f1.5 maximum aperture for portrait photographs (the best reason for having the ZM c-sonnar!) and the 1.4x magnifier is a useful aid to getting an eye in focus at close distance.

mediumformula Posted October 28, 2022 Share #4704 Posted October 28, 2022 Here is my "A La Cart" MP that came with the grey leather wrap and matching strap and de-cluttered 35-50-90 frame lines. I have the 1.25 magnifier on it for fun. I got it in January 2020 along with that Summilux. It's already been on quite a few adventures. Welcome, dear visitor! Jimmyp82 Posted October 29, 2022 Share #4706 Posted October 29, 2022 (edited) Quick question, I've only shot 1.5 films so thought it best to ask! On both films, a couple of times, it's felt tight to wind the film on, for one or two frames consecutively. It gets much tighter, much more resistance, but I can feel give so I pushed and it winded on, I can see the rewind knob moving, then after one or two frames it's normal again and I think stays fine for the rest of the film. Seems odd as it's not every time it every nth frame. Any ideas? Anyone encountered that before? Edited October 29, 2022 by Jimmyp82

Or did some youtube expert or other provide different instructions?

Fair question, the guy in the store showed me how to load it, he loaded the first film which I had the issue on then I did the second. There is certainly a good chance I've done it wrongly or slightly off somehow. I guess if it was an issue with the camera it would be more consistent with the issue rather then a frame or two early on in the roll. And I haven't developed any so of course I need to do that to see what comes out!

And I haven't developed any so of course I need to do that to see what comes out! Yup he does not know how to load it. It is binding because of that which is what you are feeling. There are so many “experts” who frankly are clueless. There is a famous shop in the US called Tamarkin Leica, well respected, and even he has made a video which he has online, which loads the camera against Leica’s very simple and very easy instructions. Follow Leica’s instructions! They are so simple, you dont even need to read the manual. Just look at the pic on the base plate. All you do is drop in the film cassette and extend the leader into the film take up spool, as indicated on the pic on the baseplate. Do NOT wind on, just attach the base plate. Then wind on and shoot twice. That is it. The tulip shape thing on the base plate is designed to correctly position the film. I have never had issues using Leica’s instructions! The only time I had was when I first started out and listened to “experts” who had other ideas. If you are in the Los Angeles area I would be happy to show you, I use plenty of Ms that I have experience with!

Everyone and their dog pops the film in and then advances the frame will the bottom plate is off “to make sure it loaded.” I have not once had a blank roll of film by just doing the thing described here.
madNbad Posted October 29, 2022 Share #4711 Posted October 29, 2022 (edited) For fun, I just watched two YouTube videos of how to load a Leica M. The first one was forty seconds, including ads. Removed the baseplate, drop in the cassette, draw the leader across, ensure everything is seated, replace the paseplate, wind twice. The second one was seven minutes filled with the worst advice possible. Edited October 29, 2022 by madNbad

OK cool well when I've finished this film I will try exactly that and see if that gets rid of the tight film advance thing!

Jimmyp82 Posted November 2, 2022 Share #4715 Posted November 2, 2022 Yeah so I loaded another film in the correct manner and all seemed fine. Before loading the film I also shot through two lots of 36 shots empty, just to see if the issue presented itself but it didn't. So it seems right now that it was due to how the film was loaded.
Dbrass Posted November 2, 2022 Share #4716 Posted November 2, 2022 Buying a new 35mm RF for life. New M6 or MP? Was set on the MP but received a damaged copy, now given the choice between the new M6 or MP from Leica. Normally I like black cameras, however the MP BP easy wear doesn't appeal. So If MP, silver or black?

The Silver Chrome MP or the new Black M6 will have a more durable paint job.
