wattsy Posted November 12, 2015 Share #3262 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) Ian , also very nice in black it is black lacquered ? In any case, in my opinion the best camera Congratulations Best Henry Yes, black paint, Henry. It's not new to me though (in fact I'm selling it - which is what prompted me to photograph it again). Fantastic camera but I prefer meterless. :-) Edited November 12, 2015 by wattsy

mdwsta4 Posted November 15, 2015 Share #3265 Posted November 15, 2015 There isn't. Omega has been the watch of choice for Bond over the last two decades and the photo has a Planet Ocean in it which Daniel Craig wore in the last few films. Daniel Craig also shoots Leica cameras (not as James Bond). I did not know that there was a Leica in the new Bond film?

colonel Posted December 4, 2015 Share #3269 Posted December 4, 2015 An MP in black is kind of the ultimate camera Timeless, subtle, beautiful and unique It may not be the best tool in all situations, but even if it isn't, you'll love using it .....

Guest Posted December 22, 2015 Share #3273 Posted December 22, 2015 Just arrived after 32 weeks (a la carte)! Absolutely gorgeous! 32 WEEKS?!?!? Holy crap, the á la carte times have gone up, they used to churn out á la carte cameras at 3 months, tops.
Peng Kang Hill Posted December 22, 2015 Share #3274 Posted December 22, 2015 What did you customize that they had to take so long to deliver? 32 weeks is 8 months!

smkoush Posted December 22, 2015 Share #3276 Posted December 22, 2015 Liveview ha ha, liveview...true, it does have liveview! Actually it was 33 weeks (and not 32!). Here is what happened: the original configuration was basically what you see now, 0.58-4 framelines, vulkanit and classic engraving (the 0.58 finder was the reason for going with it to begin with). The camera was delivered after 16 weeks, with all the proper certificates of inspection, only the people who inspected it did not apparently ever looked at the camera! It came with no engraving whatsoever, a pitch black beauty. Well, that was nice, but not what I ordered, so I sent it back. It took another 17 weeks to correct the error. Thus the 33 weeks.
Guest Posted December 22, 2015 Share #3277 Posted December 22, 2015 17 weeks to add an engraving that should have been there in the first place... not exactly boosting my confidence in their manufacturing department. Thanks for sharing the background story. I am about to place an order for an á la carte MP, but am contemplating if I can be arsed to wait that long. I feel that 16 weeks is too long as it is. I've recently gotten a standard chrome MP as part of a trade, think I'll just hold on to it instead of waiting forever for an á la carte to show up Though I can understand why you're happy with your new black paint camera, what a cracking beauty! Maybe you don't have to wait so long. The MP's are still made in batches, so maybe the MP above was the first one that had to wait until the new batch began.
menos I M6 Posted December 23, 2015 Share #3279 Posted December 23, 2015 17 weeks to add an engraving that should have been there in the first place... not exactly boosting my confidence in their manufacturing department. Another approach to get the exact camera you want is to take the one you have already (or buy a body second hand, that matches your dream camera the closest) and have Leica Wetzlar - or any qualified technician other than Leica Wetzlar specialists - modify the camera. The M7 I had Leica repair and modify to my exact wishes took them less than 2 weeks (that is a complete strip down, repair of film advance, add of custom parts, reassembly, calibration and check). Of course I made an appointment before hand and personally brought and picked up the camera as part of my trip arrangement. This super short time also meant that one specific change I wanted simply could not be arranged. It was not possible in this short time to arrange a new hot shoe to be made and engraved with my bodies serial number and have it chrome plated in matte black. Such tiny specifics can often mean a several week/ month long delay as the repair job is simply waiting in line until that one single missing special part is scheduled to be manufactured again within the regular cycle of production of such parts. Usually Leica will not produce any such special parts out of their normal production schedule as it is neither financially feasible nor practical in a manufacturing environment with Leica's chain of supply, stock and production, hence the very long excessive waiting times in special cases. But please lets be very honest with ourselves here - we are not talking about delays due to any photography dependent, practical items like a functioning film advance or an off the shelf replacement bottom plate or the replacement of a broken spring. We are talking about highly personalized luxury items. In my opinion even a waiting time for such special wishes of a year is very much appropriate and unworthy of complaint. Worthy of complaint can be a waiting time for off the shelf items in order to bring a reasonably current photographic tool like a M6, M7, MP, M8/9, … back into working conditions so a working photographer can … work, not a custom croc leatherette, personal engraving or special colored hot shoe cover with individual serial number engraving, … Similar made to order or custom modified products from small manufacturers often have waiting times, counted in years and that's perfectly fine. Part of the enjoyment to finally get this in your hand is … the waiting ;-) Some of my most cherished lenses I have hunted for years until I finally got them - some of them were not even excessively expensive but the effort (even if effort equals just waiting) does make them more likable somehow.

Order now for delivery in April doesn't seem so bad and an M film body is certainly something worth waiting for.
