I love my MP's, but lately I've been seriously considering getting a new M 240 or Monochrom. I don't want to stop using the film M's, but I'm afraid that once I get a digital M, that will be the beginning of the end of my film use. What to do, what to do... ;)

I've bin there. Made the switch from M6+ scanner to M8 , keeping my MP . Made the switch from MP+ M8 to M9 , missed my MP so much I so bought a new one. Made the switch from M9+MP to M( typ 240 ). Missed the MP again, so bought a new one, sold my last M6.... For me the combination seems to work. I shoot lots of photos with the M and really love the camera, but I still shoot enough with the MP to realize that I can't mis the camera after all.

So , what worked for me, if you really love the MP , just keep one for the occasional photo. I think you might enjoy the beauty of it even more. The photos above #2981 show you an MP shot by an M. They fit in my bag together perfectly!

I've posted this on a different thread, but it belongs here as well, so here it is.

MP with vulcanit skin and an uncluttered 4-0.72 viewfinder with 28/90, 35 and 50 frame lines.

I'm seeing in a totally new era in my photography and love affair with Leicas. I just broke down and bought a new M 240 digital which will arrive tomorrow. I opted for the M instead of the Monochrom because I didn't want to supplant my film MP's yet when it comes to dedicated black/white work. The M 240 is capable of things that I don't currently do much of, namely color, high ISO, and video, and it will provide some added convenience as more things are competing for my time. I'm looking forward to it, but also a little sad about it.

In honor of my love of film, here's some camera porn of my current and past film gear:

Andy, even though I shoot primarily in digital, I always have my M7 and a few other film cameras handy. There is something viscerally satisfying about shooting with a film camera, particularly a M, that I just can't quite get from digital.

Maybe it's the feel of the wind lever, or the muted click of the shutter. Maybe it's the way the slimmer film body fits so nicely in the hand compared with the M9. Or perhaps it's the knowledge that there are 36 frames of gorgeous image just waiting to be discovered in each roll. You just don't get that sense with a digital M. You'll find a lot of great places and times to shoot the M240, and you will undoubtedly create some excellent work with it, but you'll always have the MPs for that special feeling. Congrats on the latest addition to your family!

Nice camera! But what a thoughtful and generous wife!!! I want one. A good wife that is, as I already got a couple MPs. ;)

There must be a saying: " It's better to have a good wife than to have a bad camera." :D:D

I bought a Monochrom back in March but sold it in May, and went back to my M4-2. Not that I didn't like the Mono, it was just that I couldn't manage to get used to digital after years of using film.

That looks like an a la carte Panda! Very nice. Goes well with silver chrome lenses.

Good luck with it!

Rob

I got it that way because it reminds me of my black Nikon Fs (I'm keeping those BTW) and I like the way black paint wears down to the brass although the chrome MPs are gorgeous. I've had this since Thursday and it's been fabulous; the 0.72 VF is perfect for me and I'm glad I got the 0.72-5 frameline set. I ordered Vulkanit and although it's not the 'old' style rounded bumps that I really wanted (it looks like what I'm seeing on images of the M) it's much more to my liking than the MP's default sandpaper covering. I've warmed up to it already. Quite pricey but there's no buyer's remorse whatsoever. It won't last forever, but look at the reflection of my thumb in the top cover. Like a Steinway. :D

I run in three years 40 rolls of film through it, the paint is except the advance lever without any big blemishes. The corners are 100%, only faint scratches on the surface of the top plate are visible. So I would say, it last long. I'm carrying the camera always without a half case, with the standard Leica strap. I see a few scratches from the strap, but nothing major. The camera travelled with me to Italy, Hungary, so it is not a shelf queen.
