Well after a week with the MP I am getting the hang of twiddling the shutter dial with my finger and generally managing OK if the exposure ends up as 1/15 or 1/8. Everything about the MP feels smoother and better engineered than the M7, so I have decided to sell the M7s and get another MP. Black paint this time, of course. A Nikon 9000ED turned up today, so I'll be spending the weekend scanning old negs to see how they compare with my scans on lesser machines (especially medium format!)

Chris

Congrats Chris. I've only been "with leica" for three years almost now and even using a basic epson V700 scanner my old negs from 1970's still look great from mainly nikon lenses, but I do detect so much more evenly exposed and detailed shaded areas in the negs and wet prints too. Oh yeah and the slow shutter speeds you can easily achieve in the MP is incredible.

Chrome MP or any chrome M doesnot really wear with age. I have a 45 year old M2 I bought recently and it is almost in better nick than my Chrome MP 6 years old. The chrome can get scratched but it rarely goes down to brass in normal light use. An old Pro shooting 10 films per day in war zone might be able to get it to go to brass after 20 years but most MP in normal use should stay Exc++/Mint- with care.

But perhaps that is not what you are wanting? Black chrome rubs and brasses a little after even 1 year so I hear. I would think a Chrome MP could stand much more usage before any was noticed when compared to a Black Paint MP which shows the usage in its body by the owner.

Hope that helps?

Thanks Lincoln. I love the look of brassed black paint and have an M6 millenium, but I also really like the look of the chrome MPs. I've been thinking about getting one but have wondered what it would look like in a few years-- brassed black is great, but I couldn't imagine what brassed chrome would look like. Sounds like it's not a big issue. I wish I had time to shoot 10 rolls a day, but it's more like one a week. Thanks for the response.

I've no idea what the camera is and I wondered how it could wear in such a fashion. Perhaps the owner has one of those handle thingamabobs that attach to the straight winders. They're reputed to scratch up the top plate.

Waiting patiently for my MP to arrive as well, so I can officially join this thread!

Days (and nights) have never felt so long before... :p

Eddie,

the MP is well worth the wait! It is the best mechanical M of all time!

...steady, Robert - nothing wrong with a value judgment, so long as it is presented as such. Great camera, though - I own three (two in use, one tucked away).

I've only used the MP, so I can agree that from my experience, it is the best M ever made. Though I do wish I could have afforded an M2 or M3.

One of my favorite lenses is the 135/2.8. Shown is a hummingbird at 2.8 at about 8 feet on K64. A crazy assignment but the OOF areas are really sweet. The 35 Lux in B+W is always a joy. Doggies are Belgian Malinois, not easy to shoot with a mechanical camera.

Peter,

The link you posted does show it to be a M3....if my eyes are not deceiving me.

Best,

TW.

The wear pattern looks deliberate. There appears to be fine scratches in that wear pattern that would resemble what steel wool, sand paper or some other such abrasive would leave. Someone thought it might look cool. Highly unlikely someone could wear that area down in such a defined area by rewinding with their hand, and not also cause some commensurate wear to that front corner of the top plate and other areas.

The catalyst for all this articles was my motivation of looking for black MP3 or M3J!

I’m deeply fallen love with black one.

I have searched black one in ebay ,Westlight or other relative site.

But I could’t find my favorite one for long time.

I prefer MP3 to M3J,that is different in a counter dial .

MP3 is same as M2,MP3 as M3.

M2’film counter is classical and most beautiful one ,

which has white scale and white number in black dial.

It’s very good looking.

Finally ,I found a Black M3J in Japanese auction and have gotten her!

Now show her here,

I owe this good partner to your MP lovers!

Thank you every MP folk!
