I have just taken my Leica SF58 out of the closet and plan to use it with both my Leica S007 and Leica SL while in the UK mainly shooting pictures of my newly born Grandson.............Ive got the user manual open right now but have a question.

The manual doesn't mention SL or S007 so I am not sure if I will have to shoot in manual or does it work in TTL. I have an off camera sync cable so hopefully it will work okay.

Any tips advice would be much appreciated

SF58+ S combination is a POS in TTL. You're better off doing it manually.

okay I will try it I will need to google how to do that as I don't have a clue

Congratulations Neil, on your new, brand new, Grandson. Maybe better than a new camera... ;)

Set on manual and bounce the light off the ceiling, or a wall...forget face-to-face flash, it's nasty.

all best...

Cheers Dave

I will do like you say, set the flash in Manual and chimp and adjust until I get it right.......... I hope Rome has got loads of patience with grampy Williams :) :) :) :)

The SF58 seems to work about the same on the 007 as on the SL. Because of the DSLR style of the camerra it has a separate meter for the flash exposure and handles bounce a touch better than a mirrorless camera. I find that switching to auto mode can help as the sensor in the flash is more predictable.

HSS works fine.

A bit off topic, but the new SF-64 works much better with the S007 than the SF-58. Much shorter gap between the pre-flash and the main flash and exposures are more accurate. Fluent/automatic switching with the SF-64 between TTL and TTL-HSS depending on the shutter speed selected and the type of lens (the flash keeps in TTL until 1/1000s if you use a CS lens and then moves into TTL-HSS, whereas with an S lens it goes to TTL-HSS once you move shutter speed past 1/125s).  I sold the SF-58 and got the SF-64. Happy about the newer one.

Other than that, I've read somewhere that it is not advisable to shoot newborn babies with flash as it can stun them. I wouldn't do it.
