GoldieLocs Posted June 15, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted June 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love my little Leica D-Lux 3. It takes great shots, but I realize that no one takes P&S cameras seriously. I want to provide a photography service where parents can hire me to attend their child's birthday party as the designated photographer. Not a "professional," but one person at the party who is focused on getting photos, so they can just enjoy themselves and not worry about it. Will people just laugh themselves silly when I show up with my D-Lux 3?

cwf Posted June 15, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted June 15, 2007 As long as you don't tape over the Leica name, I suspect you'll be fine.
Paul Gruyters Posted June 16, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted June 16, 2007 Well the V Lux 1 will "look" more professional. It will take better shots, (slightly). But it might frighten the kids! Â Regards, Paul. Â Racehorse Photography by Shorengro
farnz Posted June 16, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted June 16, 2007 You might need to be conscious of the slight shutter lag, especially with children at birthday parties, because there's so much activity and the children will be moving rapidly. Fortunately with the DL3 you can zone focus manually, which will control the shutter lag better. Â Pete.

Sandokan Posted June 17, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted June 17, 2007 I will just ask you how the camera performs in available light photography? Flash kills all atmosphere so try and use it as little as possible.
AlanJW Posted June 17, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted June 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) For indoor work, the DLux 3 is not a very good choice. At high ISOs there is too much noise, and the flash is weak, to say the least. I have one and I can tell you this from experience. Also, its autofocus is ok, but not stellar and there is some shutter lag, meaning its not optimal for small children who move quickly. For childrens' birthday parties, you'd be much better off with a DSLR with an autofocus lens and maybe an external flash. One of my friends just bought a Canon XT Rebel, with two lenses (consumer grade lenses, but probably don't need better for snapshots) and a Canon 430EX flash, and a 1Gb card for less than $1000. I think you'd end up selling far more shots this way as I think you'd end with with far more keepers. Sorry but Leica is not always the right tool for the job.
