Big_g Posted November 19, 2016 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Had our usual trip to the market this morning to buy provisions for the week. I am practicing shooting from the hip and finding it pretty tricky but I will get there eventually. NB23 Posted November 20, 2016 Share #3 Posted November 20, 2016 Get where eventually? Shooting from the hip is so anti-everything.
Big_g Posted November 20, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted November 20, 2016 Shooting from the hip seems to be good to me for getting shots when people aren't looking or posing. The M is a very stealthy camera but not as stealthy as looking like you aren't using it at all! And its another technique that I can add to my skill set. Not to be used all the time but definitely there are times when it will be useful. I just need to get my zone focussing technique better. I am terrible at guessing distances
earleygallery Posted November 20, 2016 Share #5 Posted November 20, 2016 Shooting 'from the hip' has it's uses at times but it's not something to rely on in general. You're not succeeding at being discrete because the woman walking in the first photo and two people in the second photo are looking right at you! In attempting to be secretive you were giving off signals that caused those people to look. You may have ended up with better photos if you just went ahead and got the shots without the secrecy. IMHO.
