Oh! I'm really excited too - a new M is the biggest treat - not least for all the fun on the forum.

I just meant that camera reviews tend to stick to the measurable - and especially specification boxes to tick, which isn't terribly relevant . . . and leaky tick boxes even less so!

best

Jono

And, reading between the lines at Leica Rumors, all they and we have to go on is what can be deduced from images of the exterior - i.e. little about the sensor and what's in the viewfinder (except that it is at least in part an optical rangefinder).

Exactly. This is why I have made no decision, pre-decision or anything regarding this probable new M. As I have said many times before, I'm still happy with the M9. From what we have seen though, this new one has my ears pricked up - much more so than the Typ 240 - but it all depends on what we have not seen yet, and what we don't know about.

He wouldn't know the word "proletariat".

"Yes I do, it's a famous horse!"

On topic, my M10 prediction:

24MP using a sensor similar to the SL with Maestro II processing

ISO 100 - 12500 and push 25000 /  pull 50

Thinner and lighter

No video

Same batteries as the M240

4fps continuous drive

1/4000 max mechanical shutter speed, 1/8000 electronic shutter

EVF/Live View improved resolution and reduced lag

Integrated wi-fi with remote control via an app (similar to the SL and Q)

GPS and USB offered in a separate grip

Left dial is for ISO and can also be used to change drive mode by holding down another button

Pipe dream prediction:

36mp/Maestro III

I think you have it exactly right. This camera - from what we have seen, might be very attractive to M9 users.

I have just visited the leakers Instagram account if there is any news.

In the comment section, he gave information about the price and the weight of the M10.

The weight given is 550 gram and the price is around 7650 dollars, but I am not sure if it is the USD or AUD, because the location is Australia. When I check the rate on Google, it gives me 5742 USD for 7650 AUD. Of course 7650 USD is more logical if we think Leica pricing  :)

The interesting part is that he LIKED the " nice HYBRID VIEWER!!! " comment. We cannot conclude the existence of the hybrid viewfinder with this like, but we can continue to hope till the 18 th. Jan.  :)

Depends if you need high isos for your photography. If you don't the M240 is perfectly usable as is with any good raw converter. But you may have to use Dfine or other noise reducer at 3200/6400 iso and above. Not a big deal with fast lenses provided thin DoF is not a problem for you. But with my Macro-Elmar 90/4 i needed 12800 iso for this snap (http://tinyurl.com/jatys97) handheld for instance. Easy task for my A7s mod but my M240 was not the better camera for that.

I am discovering that a cheap tripod is a better solution for this kind (your Christmas decoration pic in the link) of pictures than going for high ISO camera.

Update: And I should add that your Christmas decoration pic looks quite clean to me. It is perfectly acceptable to me noise wise. You certainly loose depth in color and DR at high ISO but that matters only when you do heavy PP.

It seems that now a days skipping a generation (M9 to M10) makes more sense if you want a substantial upgrade to the specs. Generation to generation difference are not that compelling to many users.

Eagerly waiting for next week...

I know that I'm a minority (and yeah, I do keep going on and on about it  :) ), but I could easily skip more than one or two or more generations. I could skip ten if needed. If an M comes along that satisfies my "wants" then I'll get it no matter how many generations later. I won't be getting the latest just for the sake of it. I know my needs, but I'm guessing many don't really know theirs. A digital M can be for life.

... that being said the power of GAS is immense  :)  :)

Hybrid viewer? No thanks.

A hybrid viewfinder is very, very unlikely, in my opinion.  The rumor site suggests that the camera will use the optional add-on EVF from the Leica T.  That makes a lot more sense, and sounds like the Leica way.  I don't think that Leica will mess with the optical viewfinder (except to refine it) as it's the essence of the Leica M.
