Thanks Ian.

I'm looking forward to it now.. so much so I woke up this morning and thought it was today I was leaving! :D

And thanks for the debate... I actually like the cut and thrust of these discussions... and it helps me clarify exactly what it is I would like... because very often what you think you want, actually isn't once you have looked into it... Thats why I find it hard to understand why some people just sit back and think its all a bit of a waste of time.

If we are expecting Leica to react to what is said on here, then perhaps we are... but that not why I enjoy the engagement... Its so I can clarify in my own mind what I actually need, as opposed to what I think I need. And of course people come up with a slightly different solution which actually meets all my practical needs and at the same time would be more acceptable to others (such as the L mount on 'my' M) and I again find that discussion, even heated discussion, will nearly always result in a positive output if people hold their ground, or concede a point when its something they hadn't actually considered if it is shown to have some real merit.

Thats why perseverance pays off. Sometimes people just test your conviction... I had a boss who would do that. We would have stand up arguments... and if I held my ground he would walk up afterwards and put his arm round me and just say... Good... I needed to know you were convinced of your argument as you will need to go out into the world and present it, and you find people will object initially, often because they either don't understand or they are testing your resolve... or simply that you hadn't presented it as well as the idea deserves.

He was a good 'boss'... I think he fired me about five or six times... That's how heated we could get! :D

(Why am I sharing all this? Clearly, I'm still pleased my Mercedes App is working...!)

If the M10 speck is what I've been told it is I'll have one shipped to my B2B and have him hand carry it to me in Nigeria in time for my safari........... exciting [emoji3][emoji41][emoji3][emoji41][emoji3][emoji41]

It can "provide as much or as little information as you choose." But that's the bugaboo about EVFs, isn't it? So, you go out and you've turned off all the information. And then what? You're all a mess of self doubt because you turned it all off and then you second guess what, if any, difference all of it might have made with that last shot, or the shot before, or the shot before that.

So if I interpret this correctly,an OVF is for decisive moments and an EVF for indecisive ones.

If Leica thought like that in 1954, they would never have developed a viewfinder-rangefinder.

Do you live in a time machine? If Leica thought like that in 1954 the whole company would be put into an asylum.

I might stick - I've never been unhappy with the M240 and don't like the alternatives, the next M must be something very special to upgrade.

Jaap every time a new M is close , you say something similar.

But you know as well as we all do

We are too weak to resist!!!!

Hi Paul

Well - I agree about the speed and the blackout time with the TL - but I guess that's more to do with the processor and the sensor than it is to do with the EVF.

I agree. It's only relatively recently I came to realise that the performance of an EVF depended on a complexity of factors. I'm sure a new M will have a processor in advance of the M and TL, and possibly the SL as well.

Tibetan Buddhist monks have debating contests for similar reasons... as you say, it's a great way for clarifying ones thoughts.

Only if they drop the OVF completely, as stated many times before.

no one, that I am aware of, suggests the end of the ovf.

What's not to like ? Well the EVF  :)

Why is it so difficult to understand that some users profoundly dislike an EVF, no matter how good it is, no matter what it's perceived advantages may be, no matter what camera it's on.

Simple - buy one of the 8 versions of the M camera without an evf.

Correct.
If the masses are expecting a new M with a rangefinder then they are going to be disappointed........

I'd certainly like to see a camera in an M shaped body (and with similar controls and layout) with an EVF instead of a rangefinder - fantastic idea

BUT

It would be completely crazy not to give it an L mount, so that it had the possibility of using the SL and TL lenses as well as the M lenses - using the L mount would have no disadvantages and a host of advantages.

. . .  and if so, I'd contend that such a camera wouldn't sensibly be part of the M system - and ought to have a different name!

At last some sense in the discussion :) . I would add that making an M shaped body with an EVF instead of a rangefinder with an M mount would have no advantages and a host of disadvantages. I have no problem at all with Jono's suggestion. I simply see an M camera with EVF as being a dead end for a whole host of disadvantageous technical reasons.

The OVF RF camera on the other hand can continue to occupy it niche as it has for a very long time already. What's difficult to understand about this? Or should Leica really waste time and money to develop a pointless product?

An M shaped body with an L mount on the other hand would be a very interesting possibility indeed. It would even be possible to offer one with an M mount permanently installed should anyone be daft enough to want this. I remember being asked if a multi-power manual and TT underwater flash unit could be supplied in manual only configuration. When I queried the manufacturer they said it could - they would simply lock out the TTL switch setting :D .

I assume you mean EVF, Neil? I don't think anyone expects an EVF only M camera.

I certainly don't expect an EVF M at this launch... I would absolutely amazed.

If it's wishful thinking on Neil's part and he has ordered an M10 on the strength of rumour with instructions to go ahead with the purchase if those rumours prove to be true, then all well and good.

But if Neil has some knowledge the rest of us don't, and he has already ordered one on the strength of it, then well... that will take care of a good part of my bonus at the end of the month!!!
