Exodies Posted November 17, 2016 Share #21 Posted November 17, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Back in the days of the film M's the story was they couldn't fit an adjustable diopter without increasing the depth of the top plate. I was hoping when the digital M's came along and Leica had to deepen the top plate for other reasons, they would be able to fit an adjustable diopter. Apparently not. I prefer to not take off my glasses (very nearsighted) but with age I need a +1 on the Leica because the rangefinder and display are set at 1.5 or 2m (I forget now which). As my eyes change, I end up going to a +0.5 and then nothing, then get new glasses and go back to the +1. An adjustable one would be a treat. Ask your optician to make glasses with your focusing eye focused at 2m. Works for me.

bocaburger Posted November 18, 2016 Share #22 Posted November 18, 2016 Ask your optician to make glasses with your focusing eye focused at 2m. Works for me. I would not work for me. I need my glasses made so both eyes can see clearly at distance, with a tapering-off toward the bottom of the lens so I can see to read. There's a Lasik surgery where they make one eye for distance and the other for reading and the brain compensates, and I was told I'm not a candidate for that. In a pinch I can find the vertical position with my progressive lenses where I can see the rangefinder clearly without a diopter, but it's really finnicky. Using a diopter and looking through the top half of my glasses is much more comfortable.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted November 18, 2016 Share #23 Posted November 18, 2016 Would it be possible to create a screw in magnifier with adjustable diopter for those that want it? It would protrude but if you want an adjustable diopter it would make it possible. I'd actually like a screw in adjustable diopter that was also larger than the standard viewfinder for easier viewing and I wouldn't mind if it stuck out a bit as it's removable. jaapv Posted November 19, 2016 Share #24 Posted November 19, 2016 There is one by Japan exposures. (not available for use on a Leica in some countries for patent reasons) http://www.japanexposures.com/shop/accessories/ms-mag-x1.35-magnifier-for-leica-m.html
Rick Posted November 19, 2016 Share #25 Posted November 19, 2016 There is one by Japan exposures. (not available for use on a Leica in some countries for patent reasons) http://www.japanexposures.com/shop/accessories/ms-mag-x1.35-magnifier-for-leica-m.html Except, this one has crappy optics and it is a magnifier (1.35x). It does provide a magnified view for 75mm +. And, it does allow for variable diopter. But, not recommended by me and I have one. RickOptics
