enboe Posted November 11, 2016 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm really enjoying the back to basics experience of the M-D, but wish it would be available in silver chrome finish like the older M's. How many others would be interested in that configuration and also in a possible a-la-carte upgrade option. Eric

IkarusJohn Posted November 15, 2016 Share #6 Posted November 15, 2016 Splitting hairs. Oh, I don't know about that ... Actually, my M3, M-A and Monochrom are all silver chrome and the M60 is very different. I don't know how much of it is the design, and how much the materials. I believe only the top deck and baseplate are stainless, the chassis is machined aluminium like any other M camera, with more plastic than feels right in such an expensive camera. But the rest of the body is actually a different size to the normal M(240), I think. I don't have one for comparison, but I posted a picture on the M10 thread, showing that the lens mount is almost flush with the leather finish. This suggests to me that as there is no LCD, the sensor and mount is further back into the camera than a normal M(240). Anyway, no. The stainless camera and more particularly 35 Summilux are very different from the "normal" silver chrome versions, in just about every respect. I'm not sure why Leica didn't give it a polished stainless steel look (much like the silver chrome finish) or mirror finish (too much bling?), but the finish on the stainless steel is very different from silver chrome. georgio Posted November 15, 2016 Share #9 Posted November 15, 2016 I don't mind. To me the black M-D looks fine, even with the silver Summicron. So I would not go for an upgrade, rather spend that amount on glass.
Morry Posted November 16, 2016 Share #10 Posted November 16, 2016 A la carte is very welcome but then I would go for shiny black enamel. It wears much more nicely than current matte black finish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Overgaard Posted November 16, 2016 Share #11 Posted November 16, 2016 A Safari version would be nice. Unfortunately Safari versions usually comes so late in the product cycle that I never get them because I already have two of the camera model and the new one is just around the corner. IkarusJohn Posted November 16, 2016 Share #13 Posted November 16, 2016 Aren't the M bodies cast alloy? Good question, Pico. I was under the impression that when the T came out, Leica had switched to CNC machining, giving them lots more options. I can't remember where I read it ... Jeff S Posted November 16, 2016 Share #14 Posted November 16, 2016 All the recent Ms....M240, M246, M262, etc....have magnesium alloy bodies. The M262 differs in its aluminum alloy top plate, compared to brass for the others. Jeff

Different than the M 262, also in the finish of the black as far as I have seen.
