Iduna Posted November 7, 2016 Share #4 Posted November 7, 2016 no , no click. Almost on the contrary the ring is very tight so that one has to control whether the is really "on" but no sound. It works without complaints.
Cervrr Posted November 19, 2017 Share #5 Posted November 19, 2017 Hi, I would like to know how did you solve the problem with click sound when switching to macro? I have my leica 2 years, 3 month ago entire lens was replaced and now sometimes I hear strange click sound when switching to macro mode. Thanks
hionhifi Posted November 26, 2017 Share #6 Posted November 26, 2017 I too am hearing a clicking sound when I go from regular to macro mode. Has anyone experienced this? The sound is single click when rotating the macro ring from standard to macro mode. It kind of sounds like something is binding up or when turning the ring into macro mode. Please reply if you’re having this issue and more importantly what you did to fix it.
hionhifi Posted November 26, 2017 Share #7 Posted November 26, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) The click may be dependent on the temperature. For example, this morning the click was gone. The camera temperature was 74.4°. The macro ring does bind up a bit when moving from normal to macro but no click. When the click returns I will measure and report back. My theory would go like this: Fluctuations in temperature causes high tolerance parts to become slightly out of tolerance thus causing the clicking sound. Guest jvansmit Posted November 29, 2017 Share #8 Posted November 29, 2017 well, after another 12 months, the click is still there when I switch to macro. I'm mostly shooting in warm/tropical weather.

Guest jvansmit Posted November 30, 2017 Share #10 Posted November 30, 2017 Do you notice any pattern to it happening? no pattern as such....there's a marked resistance & click when I switch to macro if I haven't used it for a while. It disappears if I turn macron on/off 2-3 times, and then returns if macro is not used for a while

I'm worried about the long term durability of the camera because of this. What is your take?

I'm worried about the long term durability of the camera because of this. What is your take? I've already had the lens assembly replaced once because the AF to manual focus detent didn't engage, and as well as not wanting to have another long delay while the camera goes back to Germany, my Q is out of warranty so I'll just have to live with it
Cervrr Posted February 20, 2018 Share #13 Posted February 20, 2018 Hi, I sent video with "click" sound to Leica customer service and they replied that it is definitly not normal. It seems that they already know about this lens issue. And it is not difficult to fix it. Don't know the price yet. But probably it will be free. jmschuh Posted February 21, 2018 Share #15 Posted February 21, 2018 I wouldn't send in my camera to Leica unless you could see the lick sound in the photo. I had four different Leica Q cameras until now and they all made different sounds. Nothing to worry about.

How about this quote from Leica "Necessary labour costs: Exchange focal length adjustment ring, exchange lettering ring/ classification, adjustment of all parts. Necessary materials: Lens, complete. Repair cost : HK$12,550 ($1,600)"

But if there is no real malfunction (optical or mechanical malfunction so that you can't switch the mode) and the only problem is different click sound when switching to macro, I see no reason for a service order.

I don't know how load the click is but with mine if the camera is switched on there is a faint click at one end of the macro movement in either direction. That is not there when switched off and so I assume that the faint click is associated with some movement of a lens element, which is what one might expect.

I guess what you hear is the autofocus adjusting.

I fiddled with mine this morning, and you are correct. It only happens when the camera is turned on, regardless of whether or not the aperture is set to auto. The sound coincides with the aperture being stopped down a bit. I believe I read that, in macro mode, maximum aperture is f/2.8.
