Or just take the estimated picture, chimp, and readjusts exposure, composition and aperture...for what you want. I'd say rarely photographers get it very first image..depending on the subject and situation, of course. No matter how much we work it through in our experienced minds, perhaps a shot each way is worth it (?). regards..

Manoleica Posted November 6, 2016 Share #42 Posted November 6, 2016 Is it safe to assume that we are talking about EC while on automatic shutter speed? If so, you look at the scene, predict what the meter will do, decide it will be off by X stops, set EC to +/- X. Is this really easier than setting a manual shutter speed? How do the necessary skills and experience differ between the two methods? As you say, it's easy peasy, but some pernicious users love to over complain. Manoleica Posted November 6, 2016 Share #44 Posted November 6, 2016 Rather the opposite of the concept of "the decisive moment" The decisive moment is the image you see in your minds eye. Many times though the actual finished is photographically imperfect..
david strachan Posted November 6, 2016 Share #45 Posted November 6, 2016 Exactly. The digital revolution allows the "perfect neg" but probably not "The Moment". However HCB was famous for some pretty bad exposures. His darkroom printers had to do the corrections. There are many subjects when the "Decisive Moment" is irrelevant anyway...eg macro flower or some landscapes, still lifes, etc. We refix the lighting and/or the composition/POV. cheers.. ELAN Posted November 6, 2016 Share #46 Posted November 6, 2016 I also find EC on the M240 ergonomically cumbersome. I use it both ways, with pressing button #3 and without. Pressing the button is awkward as stated by others, and when used without the button the EC randomly changes as the wheel rubs against the side of my body while I walk. I would love a dedicated EC dial and a dedicated ISO dial. But I also like my M clean without too many buttons and dials...

bocaburger Posted November 6, 2016 Share #50 Posted November 6, 2016 I have Light Metering set to Classic/LV Disabled, and Exposure Compensation set to OFF in both of mine. I prefer to adjust aperture or shutter speed myself, which I find takes no more time than adjusting exposure comp. If I'm ever shooting in A mode it's because I don't have time to make those adjustments. If need be I can usually shift the view enough to change value and use exposure lock. Otherwise I don't want any buttons/wheels active where I could inadvertently set a comp, even though there's an indicator in the finder (which I could miss if I was concentrating on the shot). Just my personal preference.
