jaapv Posted November 10, 2016 Share #21 Posted November 10, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) No, not really. But it MUST be the APO-Extender. The older 2x Extender is a bit ho-hum.
Advertisement Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Hi jaapv, Take a look here 80-200/f4 Vario Elmar-R on SL. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Leicaiste Posted November 10, 2016 Share #22 Posted November 10, 2016 Btw I assume that a (2x) Extender would also need to be ROM coded? For the moment the ROM of the Apo-Extender 2X and Macro-Adapter R are not supported by the SL. When used, not only doesn't they show any lens length in the exifs but they make it impossible to choose any lens in the in-camera R list. Like choosing the 350mm f/4.8 Telyt-R when you use a 180/2,8 Apo with the Apo-Extender 2X or the 180/4 when you use a 90/2. A non-ROM Apo-Extender 2X will let you choose any lens in the list. The same with a non-ROM R-Adapter SL like the Novoflex. Let's hope the next SL's firmware will sort that issue.
cpclee Posted October 15, 2017 Share #23 Posted October 15, 2017 I just picked up a very minty copy of this lens and will be testing it on my SL in the coming days. I used to have one when I had my R system and it is a great lens and one of the underrated gems of the R system. The look is typical of mid-90s Leica, meaning the rendering is quite modern and taut and the contrast is very high and the bokeh is somewhere between Mandler and Karbe designs. Its design derived from the 70-180/2.8 APO and is a very close match. It was always priced relatively inexpensively even when new because it was built by Kyocera (Contax) in Japan on behalf of Leica. A real bargin among Leica lenses.
cpclee Posted October 15, 2017 Share #24 Posted October 15, 2017 Christopher Bell posted on the FB SL Group a set of pictures shot with this lens. The bokeh is quite pleasing. https://www.facebook.com/groups/leica.sl.601/permalink/1545387962424396/

cpclee Posted October 15, 2017 Share #27 Posted October 15, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for sharing. Is the cleaning pre-emptive because the images quite fine? The lens is more compact than I remembered and balances excellently on the SL. I remember it balancing less well on the diminutive R6.

The lens is more compact than I remembered and balances excellently on the SL. I remember it balancing less well on the diminutive R6.2 You are welcome, and yes, the cleaning was pre-emptive. I had recently acquired the lens and was sending another lens to DAG for a cleaning so decided to send this one at the same time. As for size, I cannot say that I think it is "compact", particularly with the M and R adapters extending its length. It certainly can be shot handheld and is nowheres near the weight and heft of the SL 90-280. (I find that almost everything balances well on the SL!) It is certainly well priced on the pre-owned market. Rob
sillbeers15 Posted October 15, 2017 Share #29 Posted October 15, 2017 It was my carry around zoon lens when I used it with my M240 before Leica released the SL with AF & the availability of the 90-280mm. Now it is just a piece of dead weight sitting at home. I have a mint late production unit with full box and papers: R80to200A by sillbeers15
