baci Posted November 3, 2016 Author Share #21 Posted November 3, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) You talked me into it - bought the SF-58 today. The learning curve starts tomorrow. Let's see how this turns out...!
Advertisement Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Hi baci, Take a look here M9 and SF-40. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Luke_Miller Posted November 3, 2016 Share #22 Posted November 3, 2016 The SF-58 is a great flash. It does affect the camera's handling, so I typically add a grip to the body. I bounce the flash whenever possible, and when bouncing the front flash tube becomes active for fill. I turn it off as I don't like the shadows it produces. DandA Posted November 3, 2016 Share #23 Posted November 3, 2016 Thats why I cannot understand why the Auto mode in the SF 40 uses a pre flash triggering blinking and therefore in essence is really TTL without having exposure comp. Are we sure "A" mode in this flash is really a striped down TTL mode? Again as I indicated in my previous post (above), this shoould be easy enough to test for. baci Posted November 5, 2016 Author Share #24 Posted November 5, 2016 OK - update. Got the SF-58. My M9 is off having it's sensor replaced and the very nice people at Leica gave me an SL for the weekend while they wait for a loaner M240 to become available. Lovely camera. After all the time I spent trying to coax immediate and reliable results from the SF-24 the 58 is a wonder. It. Just. Works. The swivel head is great, setup simple, results wonderful. Can't wait to get it on an M body.
Luke_Miller Posted November 5, 2016 Share #25 Posted November 5, 2016 Careful. I hear the SLs can be addictive.
Sean ASA Posted November 7, 2016 Share #26 Posted November 7, 2016 You may be already, but I use Lithium AA batteries. Not rechargeable ones, standard use once type. They seem to help recycle times and are a third lighter then alkaline batteries, which makes a surprising balance difference. Hold power for 20 years and leak proof so can sit in the gun happily. Mine are Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA.
DandA Posted November 7, 2016 Share #27 Posted November 7, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sean, in thr past certain manufacturers of certain electronic devices like flashes and cameras specifically stated not to use Lithium batteries in place of alkaline. Does the Sf 40 booklet state anything one way or another about using them? Thanks. Dave (D&A)
Sean ASA Posted December 8, 2016 Share #28 Posted December 8, 2016 Hi sorry missed this question, manual lists them as usable option.
