A five meter high flower

We have several agaves in our garden. When they "flower", in June, they first send a five meter high stalk to the sky. Then, the "flower" appears end July and progressively dries, to collapse and fall to the ground during the winter. Needless to say : we cut the stark - weighting several kilos - before it falls.

A great story Pecole..as always.  I enjoy looking at your posts.

We have them, albeit similar in Australia, and call them "Century Plants" flowering every few years...hence the name. (They do flower a lot more often then once-in-a hundred years.)

There are some nice ones in Sydney. Also here in South Australia. Here the plant is more fleshy and has much bigger "leaves".

Very nice.

all the best..

Thanks for your comments and information, Dave. "Our" agaves do flower about every ten years, and sometimes die after flowering.

We visited your fascinating country-continent a long time ago (1988-89), when touring the world in family : Auckland with excursions to Rotarua and Whakarewarewa, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide ( and Glenelg strands), Coober Pedy, Kulgera, Alice Springs and Uluru-Ayers Rock. What a souvenir!
