Canada Square Canary Wharf -  approximately 7.6 miles from Alexandra Palace 

 

 

 

 

 

The City of London Gherkin building et al approx 6.3 miles from Alexandra Palace 

 

 

 

 

 

Looking towards Poplar, Tower Hamlets … still trying to identify the church spire but it might be St Mary's Cable Street … approx. 7 miles from Alexandra Palace.

I would call them more than "satisfactory".   You can see where the atmospheric distortion starts to degrade the image behind the church but in front of that the detail is amazing.

 

As a matter of interest did you know you're not allowed to use a tripod on the DLR platforms around Canary Wharf? I had a nice gentleman tell me that once.  (Not before I got the photo though).

Actually the lens resolves detail far better than certain books suggest. Atmospheric conditions are the limiting factor.

Thanks for identifying the church, I looked everywhere and couldn't find it, so non-typical London.  The images are terrific, I especially like the foreshortening effect of the gable roofs. Incredible lens.

Yes #3 is the standout photo here, especially the patterns created by the horizontal row of houses across the bottom of the photo, the compressed diagonal rows above them, more horizontal rows and then the spire behind.  Amazing resolution for a 44 year old lens. I'd like to see he same scene taken with this lens after a good downpour has cleared the air.

This image taken at 19.00 hrs April 13 2016 from the Alexandra Palace balcony with a Leica SL & Leitz 60mm Macro Elmarit R lens is vertically cropped, and then cropped again to 'actual pixels' to show the closer views of Canary Wharf and the City of London.

The atmospheric haze in the distance is noticeable - making 800mm colour views very 'muddy' - hence the 800mm views were converted to B&W.
