rriley Posted August 16, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 16, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Given that the SL has only two deliverable lenses at present and given that they are both zooms, has anyone bought any of the excellent S lenses for their SL? Advertisement Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Hi rriley, Take a look here S lenses for the SL?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
FlashGordonPhotography Posted August 17, 2016 Share #2 Posted August 17, 2016 I have S lenses but as of today there's no S-Adaptor L available for me to purchase. There's also the Novoflex adaptor which gives availability to a wide range of Canon EF lenses, including many of their primes. Gordon
R3D-D0T Posted August 17, 2016 Share #3 Posted August 17, 2016 Leica did say there would be an official adaptor coming up. Makes me kind of worried about the S's future
steppenw0lf Posted August 17, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 17, 2016 I was also contemplating to buy the 120mm macro. But you cannot find any used lenses at a decent price. So in the end it does not pay off to buy an S lens just for use on the SL. (OK. if you win the lottery and waive the compulsory Ferrari.) If you already have S lenses, it's a different story. P.S: the adapter is officially shipping since the beginning of June. As usual a matter of being in the (right) queue. There is one more consideration. If you want AF, the S lenses are far slower than the SL zooms. If you want no AF, there are many other - less costly - options. (hundreds)
albireo_double Posted August 17, 2016 Share #5 Posted August 17, 2016 You don't need to worry about the S's future - just take the effort to look. As far as I can see, I can put the S-L adapter in my shopping basket and pay now. You see something else than I do? http://www.leicashop.com/brandnew_en/leica/sl-system/leica-s-adapter-l.html
tom0511 Posted August 17, 2016 Share #6 Posted August 17, 2016 I own the adapter and it works, but frienkly I would not buy any S-lenses if I did not also own a S body. Too much money for too slow AF if you want to use it just on the SL. The most interesting S-lens IMO to use on the SL is the S100/2.0 as a portrait lens. (hundreds) Maybe they ship internationally. price is AUD http://www.cameralane.com.au/leica-apo-macro-summarit-s-120mm-f2-5-lens-used/ Mind you, if you want a macro then a Zeiss 100mm Makro Planar may be a better option. May be officially shipping but Leica Australia hasn't shipped one yet. Gordon

My view as well (and I own an S007 and a bunch of S lenses). For a portrait lens (if I owned an SL which I don't), I'd be intrigued by the Novoflex adapter in combination with the Canon EOS 100/2 lens. Don't know how fast AF is with that combination, but at least it would address the "too much money" issue quite nicely, and image quality should be more than sufficient. rriley Posted August 17, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted August 17, 2016 I had the opportunity to buy the S Macro and the S 120 TS lens at a reasonable price. They are both beautifully made and Super Sharp but the Macro is slow to focus and noisy but that is less of a factor with a Macro than with another type of lens. I am surprised that Leica couldn't do a better job on the Macro motor.
