Mute-on Posted August 9, 2016 Share #21 Posted August 9, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Further to my post # 18 above To deal with smells, good old fresh air and sunlight does a very good job. As other have suggested, a hand was following Billingham's instruction is the recommended approach. Follow this with a few days airing outside and enough sunlight to penetrate the interior, and you should notice a very significant improvement. I have hung bags in an open garage for a week or more to good effect as well. Once you have a nice, clean and smell free 555, by all means source whichever Billingham or Domke inserts will fit properly, but do so to accommodate your other cameras. Bags such as the L2, Hadley Small, and Hadley Pro are far better suited to M systems. I have all three and highly recommend the L2 for 2 Ms with lenses, and the Hadley Pro for a few more lenses. The Small Hadley will do the L2 job, just with less wriggle room. Billinghams are fantastic bags and worth saving in your case, regardless. Advertisement Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Hi Mute-on, Take a look here Billingham Question, sorry!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Soden Posted October 19, 2016 Share #22 Posted October 19, 2016 I picked up a 555 and the original owner had washed the inserts in the washing machine. They were totally destroyed. Luckily all the inserts (including the base) are still available at Billingham or B&H. I agree the 555 is way to large for M gear, but it's excellent for medium and large format cameras, unless it's a car only bag, or it doubles as your suitcase. dkCambridgeshire Posted October 19, 2016 Share #23 Posted October 19, 2016 I have a 550 for large loads and use small cardboard boxes as compartments - probably lighter than the inserts, replaceable, and cost nothing . To clean the bag, carpet cleaner foam works well … sponge it on and sponge it off - and it leaves a pleasant fragrance . To deodorise the bag , place it upside down on a rack or tie it / peg it to a clothes airer - but with supports inside so it's open. Underneath place a few 'Anti Tobacco' tealight candles. Light the candles and let the vapours do their work. Welcome, dear visitor!
