I think there is significant sample variation with this lens. Luckily the dealer in Australia had a number of copies on hand and he kindly let me test a few until I got a good one - a good one meaning one that didn't smear in the corners.

After three dogs,  I will never buy another.  Optical and mechanical issues.

Wondering whether the new 10 and upcoming revised 12 will be any better. Didn't they suddenly withdraw the 10mm 'E' mount version for undisclosed QC issues?

So far I am not impressed with the 10mm M-mount version. Will try it with film next. Nonetheless it is so amazingly wide! It reminds me of the 35mm Grandagon over 6x12cm.

Perhaps we are expecting too much from a WA lens at that price point. I'm sure they could ensure consistency if the lens cost double or triple the amount. Perhaps we are being too harsh on the lens itself - it really it quite an impressive performer for the price point.

I posted a couple images from the 10mm. The main subject, the children's play house, was 6 to 7 feet away. I owe you some better pictures.

The only correction here was in Adobe's DNG interface to Photoshop to  fill the shadows, which does diminish fall-off a great deal.

ONLY Photoshop here.

Here with Photoshop 5.1 2 using Adobe's built-in lens correction for the 12mm.

Until I processed these in Photoshop I didn't realize lens-correction updated itself to include 12mm.

I find it interesting that nobody has noticed that even an old version of Photoshop automatically reaches to the 'net to download updates to their lens correction filter, even in version CS 5.1 2.

So much to discover,

Pico

Voigtlander lenses: I'll focus on the positive. The old 50mm f:1.5 is quite good and sits on my M8 for "camera in the car" duty. The Heliar F: 3.5 collapsible is really great in all respects: it is the regular lens on the M9. All photos taken with the Heliar are, lens wise, superb. My other superb non-Leica lens is the 18mm Distagon F4. Regards, ron
