Need Help Please. Blinking "SD" LED in View Finder (MP)

So I have an MP and today the unspeakable happened. I was picking up my camera and the Shoulder strap caught the end of the table as I was pulling up and it popped it out my hands, I was able to reach down and grab the shoulder strap before it made full contact with the Tile, but I guess it was not enough.. Or too much. :(

So I was prepared for the worse, but hoping for the best when I tried to turn it on. But alas... Ive completely botched up my beautiful camera. :( Im so bummed...

Anyway, Im not sure I just need to send it in, Im really hoping I dont have to, last time I sent a lens in, it was 5 months before I got it back. Maybe I can do a "hard reset" If there is such a thing.

But when I turn the camera on it takes a minute to see anything in the few finder and I see a Blinking S d Or maybe a 5 d in red. If Keep the camera on Automatic shutter speed, it chooses a very long shutter speed. If I change it, then its fine. But I dont have working LCD at all.

Ive changed lenses, SD cards and Batteries. Same result.

Im I up the creek? Or does anyone have any suggestions? Any help and I would be most grateful. I understand this is my first post, but I lurk a bit. So I do feel bad my first post asking for help, but I besides sending the camera in and being with out it, I didn't know what else to do.

Thank you!
Bry

That messed up the electronic parts inside. You'll have to send it in. Maybe some board or cable shifted. If it got such a bump, the sensor will need to be adjusted as well.

What Jaap said...

Oh, and welcome to the Forum, but what a bad start.

Thank you both. Yeah, bummed, but on the up side service center said all Ms are fixed in a week. So that promising.

Do you think I should send me lens in too? I really don't want to be out my Noct! :( But a drop like this can damage it can't it?

Should be back as good, or better, than new.

If you haven't already, consider personal insurance to cover things the warranty does not, including loss, theft and/or damage.  It could have been much worse.

I agree, could have been bad for sure. I do have policy that covers most of my high end items, but the deductible is like 10k, so not really feasible if I had damaged it anymore. Hopefully it won't be too expensive.

Wrong type of policy....consider one specific to camera gear and collectibles, e.g., as a rider to a home policy.  Mine, like many, includes no deductible, covers virtually all circumstances worldwide (including my own stupidity), and is relatively inexpensive (a few hundred bucks a year to cover over $20k in gear).

Thats what I have, but I have many collectables as I sell Fountain Pens and watches for a living. But I guess I could get another policy specially for the Cameras. But Ive just wrapped the Pens, Watches, Swords, trunks, cameras, etc in one policy.

Doesn't sound like it if you have a deductible.  Mine isn't part of the home policy valuables.....it's a totally separate policy rider with no deductible, full replacement cost (at my determined value without appraisal), even if item appreciates or is discontinued and new model is more expensive.
