Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted June 26, 2016 Share #21 Posted June 26, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Changing up to the 007 (for me) just isn't worth it. Now if it was a 009 with a 100 mp sensor and a hole bunch of bells and whistles that might be worth it but right now the difference between the two is minimal and defiantly not worth it "for me". I plan to send my S back to Germany after my Scotland/Europe trip along with my 120mm lens that has a crapped out AF motor. The camera boys leather is now peeling off..........not what you would expect for a 17000 dollar camera that is less than 12 months old and spent 6 months of that in a dry box :(
Advertisement Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Hi Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS, Take a look here Leica S trade up. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hoppyman Posted June 26, 2016 Share #22 Posted June 26, 2016 Yes, the equipment may be bought to use and not as an investment to sell in the future, but that is significant depreciation over a very short time. The digital M cameras don't drop in value anything near that fast. So use it and enjoy the results as it still produces exquisite results - once you get the AF working on that lens! Mark I think that nominal trade up value is less than that by selling separately. The S (Typ 007) does have significant improvements over the previous model but I agree that the deal doesn't seem to be good value. I wouldn't trade one in for that either. ynp Posted June 26, 2016 Share #23 Posted June 26, 2016 Noticed today that the Russian OD dropped the prices for some of the S lenses for about 20 percent in US$. No traid-in yet. I am pretty sure I will delay the planned purchase of some lights and buy an S lens. After that, no spending before the Photokna. I also noticed that customers miss the cabinet with the S stuff altogether. No interest. They ask questions about M and Q cameras and watch bags, as usual. Hopefully the new S-M of 2017 will be working with my adapters. Over the years I accumulated several lines of Med Format Lenses and I'm ready to move into the H camp with my assortment of HC lenses. But I'd prefer to use them on the S. More than anything I wait for the news from Sinar. The Sinar has an antiquated bulletproof tethering and bulletproof color management. I just don't want to learn Phocus and want to stay with Leica and Sinar. Sorry for the rant. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Hopefully I will be able to work with the adapters and Contax and Hasselblad lenses. Phocus is a very good software and the skin tones and general color are very good. A pro who shares my studio with us moved from H1 with P1 back to the H5D40 and she's happy. Phocus do a lot of housekeeping internally and DAC works very well. She is doing retouching for us and often use my S2 to get better wider lenses for her subjects and scenes : the 35mm HC is a lemon, and the 28mm is so-so. The gems are 50mmHC-|| and the 150mm N. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk I've been chatting a lot with the folks over at LUL about the best starter lenses for the H system and they all speak highly of the 50mm II so I am thinking of getting that plus the 100mm 2.2. I had initially been looking at the 120mm macro the same as my Leica 120mm macro but I was convinced that the 100mm would be a better choice due to speed and weight. tom0511 Posted June 27, 2016 Share #28 Posted June 27, 2016 Well, if you don't like a deal you walk away from it... No need to get upset. It still would be nice if Leica offered reasonable trade in / upgrade offers for their customers. You can walk away from a deal but there is also a risk for Leica (IMO) some people might walk away from a brand and go to one which offers a better upgrade program. I think this offer is kind of a joke. Would be nice if Leica made it easier to hold up with their latest products.
Georges Posted June 27, 2016 Share #29 Posted June 27, 2016 Well, if you don't like a deal you walk away from it... No need to get upset. Jaap, Neil has all the right to be upset. There is nothing wrong to voice this in a civilised manner on this forum. That can only give Leica (and potential customers) some hints what they are doing wrong. Offering trade-in deals below market price (currently the 006 value is probably around 6,000 usd) is not making you happy as a Leica customer. Hasselblad is doing the opposite. They offer trade-in deals above market value (9,300 usd for a H4), what is strange, but at least you feel good about it as customer. The right approach is probably in the middle. Leica has too much an attitude of *you bought it, now it is your problem" (remember the R story?). Leica can learn something here. P.S. I am using both Leicas and Hasselblads since 30 years and have no bias versus one or the other. They are both some great European companies and offer me great joy. Georges Posted June 27, 2016 Share #30 Posted June 27, 2016 Neil, I have a couple of HC lenses. My preferred are surely the 50mm II, the 100mmm and the 210mm (very sharp).

I don't have the HC 100/2.2 to comment. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

The difference between the 006 and 007 is minimal especially if like what I do is shoot it on a tripod. And that's the reason behind the H6D. I want it for landscape and eventually 100 megapixel. Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted June 28, 2016 Share #40 Posted June 28, 2016 New message from Leica You know about my issues with the 006, well I've been talking with Hasselblad and they can give me a H6D 50 back with one lens for 17500 pounds When I arrived in Scotland yesterday Leica contacted me and offered me a trade in with my 006 for a 007 Body + Pro Charger + Spare Battery + S Protection Plan All for 6050 pounds. For me to give up on the S altogether I would loose money on the S lenses as well and have to buy a bunch of new lenses for the H6D......... So I am leaning back to the S007 as not only it's a bunch cheaper but the H6D might be a better option A few years down the road........ And at the end of the day the 007 takes amazing pictures and the Leica glass is amazing ( after the AF motor gets changed out) and it's a proven weather sealed camera. Am I thinking logical or as usual messed up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
