Advertisement Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Hi lensblur, Take a look here Is this street photo by Leica M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lensblur Posted June 8, 2007 Author Share #2 Posted June 8, 2007 Apologies. Don't know if it is politically correct in this forum...without looking at the EXIF.
scott kirkpatrick Posted June 8, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 8, 2007 Good joke. Before i peeked I thought it might have been done with a D-Lux2 or 3, because the image was less crisp than an M8 would produce. scott
DaveEP Posted June 8, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 8, 2007 It is important what camera a shot comes from?
Guest Bernd Banken Posted June 8, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 8, 2007 Lens blur, sorry no. In the meaning "made outside somewhere in the streets" it's ok. But not in the classical meaning of streetphotography where some "hook" or something similar should be expressed at the very first glance. Pls. look here: iN-PUBLiC | David Gibson Regards Bernd
Artichoke Posted June 8, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 8, 2007 difficult to say, but I agree that the M8 produces photographs with better detail capture than what your photograph shows, even at the web reduced size you posted of course this could be due to many factors, but it does not look typical of what the M8 can do I think the word crispness applies perfectly here is one of a street scene from the M8 that demonstrates this crispness (taken with a CV 40 mm Nokton, unfiltered, btw) Welcome, dear visitor! lensblur Posted June 8, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted June 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Nop. It wasn't M8. It was a Canon with 85mm, set at f/1.2.

Guest sirvine Posted June 8, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 8, 2007 The thing that consistently suprises me about M8 files when compared to other digitals is the amount of "depth" the M8 retains even in the most peripheral, distant objects. By depth, I mean the ability to perceive the contours and textures of objects waaaaay outside the focal point of the image. An example, only to illustrate...take a look at the way the eiffel tower and other horizon elements come through on this otherwise unremarkable image...Paris - Antwerp 2007 Fun! Notice also the gold top on the obelisk at Place de Concord and detail in the foliage and row of buildings on the right. And this is handheld, in awful light and underexposed. Guest sirvine Posted June 8, 2007 Share #10 Posted June 8, 2007 lens blur-- The black and white image is def not an M8, unless you ran some noise suppression filter over it. I've never see such splotchy noise from the M8. Not to mention all the aliasing...
scott kirkpatrick Posted June 8, 2007 Share #11 Posted June 8, 2007 This last one is a small-format image. It's grainy and has loads of DOF. I would guess that it is a Ricoh GR-D or GX100 wide open. BTW, I like it better than the first one. I'm waiting for the Holga example. scott
lensblur Posted June 8, 2007 Author Share #12 Posted June 8, 2007 That was a GX100 alright... How about this.. Sorry, I am a bit lonely
scott kirkpatrick Posted June 8, 2007 Share #13 Posted June 8, 2007 Not a Holga. Have you tried working all the large print that shows up on cigarette packs into a compelling picture? scott
Guest sirvine Posted June 8, 2007 Share #14 Posted June 8, 2007 That last one's the M8. I'm going by the color noise signature in the old man's face.

Artichoke Posted June 8, 2007 Share #17 Posted June 8, 2007 though again this is hard to tell at these sizes the cigarette dealer photo looks like you worked on some of the bloom about the lamps above the dealer's head ...the last has the detail & look I typically get from my M8, though the WB seems off a bit I am sorry that my Bukowski Tavern is putting Sol off ...here is one showing why Bukowski may have appreciated it Welcome, dear visitor! lensblur Posted June 8, 2007 Author Share #19 Posted June 8, 2007 Thank you all. The last 2 photos of mine were taken with Zeiss15 f/2.8 on M8. That was before I got the WATE, and liked to use f/2.8 quite often in poor lighting condition. Cheers, VB
bernd_muc Posted June 8, 2007 Share #20 Posted June 8, 2007 Sorry, I am a bit lonely Lonely in Hong Kong? Maybe you should go to Wan Chai (Carnegie's, Dusk till Dawn, 109 bar or Nautilus ) or Lan Kwai Fong (Central). But if you live there, you probably know more places to go to...
