Mat you lost me in all that maths............also I see my 6x6 is showing as a 4x4 and I don't recall typing 4x4.

Anyway to cut a long story short, I would have jumped at the 50 CVO had it had a 6x6 sensor. I will stick with 120 film for now until that prototype 6x6 that they had on show at photokina becomes a reality :) :)

Hi, Neil. Where did you get that the prototype V1D with the waist level finder is 6x6? The V1D is intended to use the 100MP sensor and crop down to a 75MP square format (making it about 40mm x 40mm):

40x40 on a 75MP sensor is still pretty amazing, in my humble opinion.

I wonder if they will ever make it?  Looks more like a design exercise than something pre-production.  The cost will be sobering ...

75 MP 40 x 40 is indeed, John, very good (which is the H6D-100c). At this stage it is concept-only, testing the water for market interest. Anything (including the sensor spec's) could change before it became a production item, if it ever does. With the relative flood of new MF options sort of coming to market, I guess everyone is wanting to see how big that market is, how many different models / systems it can absorb, and what direction it moves in.

I'm not intending jumping into this particular rat-race (I have more to improve on in my own technique with what I have than I could get from moving to digital MF)  - The only one that could pry my wallet open is the CFV-50c, and that would be more for convenience than need. I do enjoy seeing the new entries, though, and hope it does generate a flurry of activity and bounty of options, as was the case with MF film last millennium.

I'm in the same boat.  The SL challenges me enough already, and I get results beyond my ability with all that I have.  Technical quality of my equipment doesn't hold me back ...

The CFV-50c is $10,000!  If I was going that route, rather than having a digital back on my SWC, I'd probably go for the X1D-50c and the 30mm lens.  The truth is, I have more gear than I need or use - I can't bear to part with any of it, but I also see zero justification for adding to it!  And it's all (apart from the SWC) an interchangeable part of a single 35mm system - it doesn't get any better than that!

I probably like M cameras too much to go through with this idea, but I think I could cover every single photographic project I could ever imagine undertaking with an outfit consisting of two cameras: a small AF APS-C, no doubt a Fuji XPro 2 with a range of lenses, and a MF like a new Fuji or X1D with two lenses.

That would take me back to the days before I got into 35mm photography, when MF was all I knew, and it is quite an appealing proposition.

But there's somethings so nice about using the M, although I have come to accept that the visual advantages in print compared with other cameras is no longer compelling.

In the words of our spiritual leader Neil D, I'm swithering.

100mp or 75mp doesn't mean a thing if you can't see the screen to compose, focus and scroll through menus!  That bare, open to the sky evf clearly needs a little more design forethought, otherwise the general idea is appealing.

I see skips full of unwanted and worthless SL's ahead.....  ;)  :D

That's why the S007 hits the sweet spot..............best of both worlds, sexy, super sharp, fast, echocalnomocal, and the files just make you want to go out and keep shooting.

Well, according to many of your own posts, that's true if you can lug it around all day, and if the lenses don't break.  Few seem to express any concerns about the files.

The X1D has a startup time of 7 seconds. This is in production copies.. Unacceptable. They lied about fixing all off this to their pre-order customers. I'd be pissed if I went ahead an pre-ordered one. A lot of other bugs they didn't fix according to someone who owns one. And he says they haven't told him when they'd get it settled.

Hope they can sort all that out in a firmware update sooner then later. Since it's a really good camera in theory for those who shoot walk about fine art work.

I'm putting my money into the new Fuji GFX. It looks as fast as the older X-T1 and I'm even talking auto focus speeds from the videos I've seen. The X-T2 is so brilliant that I have faith Fuji will do right by the GFX! And the announced lens lineup seems great. That 110/2 :D

Second time I've read about the startup time, thanks - that would be a deal breaker for me.

The Fuji GFX is still hard for me to love and think I'd consider the SL.

Are you really prepared to ignore a potentially marvellous camera because it's not beautiful (to your eyes)?

Anyway, even on that level of decision making I think you're making a mistake and confusing the fact that Fuji prioritises function over cosmetics with poor design. If the Hasselblad turns out to be the inferior performer in measurable ways, I would argue that its design is the poorer of the two, since they'll have got the form/ function relationship back to front.

This is hypothetical at this stage of course, as are all comparisons of cameras we can't try for ourselves yet.

If it were a work horse camera that I needed to do a job - then I wouldn't care so much for how it looks.

Aesthetics are high priority for everything I buy, I like pretty things :D

that being said, when the Leica SL was first announced - I was not in awe of its looks.. I won't rule out the Fuji entirely.

I spent twice the amount of money on a laser 'tape measure' for an odd job because it looks a lot nicer than the cheaper brand multi-functional alternative :) it's a disease... i'm sure

They are not. You delude yourself.

If your Hasselblad made crap photos you wouldn't use it, no matter that you think it looks pretty.
