Sandokan Posted June 9, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 9, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Has anyone discovered a source for generic SL or T rear lens caps? I ask because I have half a dozen adaptors and do not really want to invest a couple of hundred dollars into the Leica SL/T rear lens caps and also do not want to be screwing and unscrewing lenses from adaptors each time I change from say a Leica R lens to an M lens. Nor do I want to put the combination in my bag without a rear lens cap.
Advertisement Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Hi Sandokan, Take a look here Generic SL rear lens cap?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Leicaiste Posted June 9, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 9, 2016 I never remove the M Adapter T from the SL because of that. All my other adapters are to M. I will only start to have this problem when the R Adapter L will be available.

farnz Posted June 9, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 9, 2016 Ravi, Clearly you need a dozen or so SL's to use as rear lens caps. Pete.
steppenw0lf Posted June 9, 2016 Share #5 Posted June 9, 2016 (edited) You might look in the noname department. Find one that is slightly too small. Then cut off the parts that are in the way - no need to have a perfect fit. As a start you could try to mutilate an old Leica R rear lens cap, but maybe you find something cheaper. I saw fotodiox offers them for 30 euro, but there must be something less expensive . Here you get three for 4 dollars, but it gets even cheaper. http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-PCS-Camera-Lens-Rear-Cap-for-Leica-R-Mount-Lens-RCAP-LRx3-/371644881176?hash=item5687c2d918:g:3j0AAOSwFGNWTt7v Edited June 9, 2016 by steppenw0lf
Sandokan Posted June 10, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted June 10, 2016 Ravi, Clearly you need a dozen or so SL's to use as rear lens caps. Pete. Indeed that is the obvious solution, and my Man can help carry them for me. Currently I have the Nikon 58/1.4G on the camera but the Canon 40STM is waiting for its adaptor ... and I do have a couple of R (Novoflex adaptor) and M lenses waiting to go on. The Contax with the 28-85 and 50/1.4 is also waiting to be played with. If only I had time ... I remember the days when I did not have the money to buy even the adaptors but lots of time to walk around and shoot with my Canon A1 with 50 lens wishing to have a wide angle and long range zoom. Sigh ... So, lets hope that someone with a mold injection machine is out there and starts to make them. (I hope I used the right "mold" as the wrong "mould" would just fungus-ify my entire collection - or maybe they are both the right spellings but on different sides of the Atlantic?)
Ivar B Posted June 10, 2016 Share #7 Posted June 10, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I searched for it myself but did not find anything. Prices for original are 25€ in Germany and about 45$ in the US. I should think that it will not last too long before someone finds that there is money to be made producing these caps. mmx_2 Posted June 10, 2016 Share #8 Posted June 10, 2016 If I had one to copy I could 3D-print it for you guys
steppenw0lf Posted June 10, 2016 Share #9 Posted June 10, 2016 (edited) If I had one to copy I could 3D-print it for you guys Good idea. Buy one and sell the copies in the web. How much would it cost to copy one ? And how long lasting is the material ? (Maybe shrinking or crumbling if used in bad environments ? Has anybody long-time experience with the materials used ?) Maybe you even find a 3D model of the cap (or the bayonet) in the web ?! But the L bayonet is quite new, so probably still protected from copying ... (by copyright laws) While the old Leica R caps are probably already a long time unprotected. Edited June 10, 2016 by steppenw0lf
mmx_2 Posted June 10, 2016 Share #10 Posted June 10, 2016 I've made M-caps with success (both single and double). I don't know with copyright, but I'm quite sure the L-bayonett is protected. Materialwise it's quite cheap so only machine time really (will take about an hour to print a cap). Maybe I can give them away for free and people can make donations to me

dkCambridgeshire Posted June 11, 2016 Share #12 Posted June 11, 2016 EOS caps almost fit; with some ingenuity they might adapt - but at your own risk. I managed to modify one yesterday so it fits but it needs more work (building-up and filing) to be really secure. Generic EOS caps are cheap enough. dunk
helged Posted October 3, 2016 Share #13 Posted October 3, 2016 Anything new to add to the search for reasonably prized Leica SL (or T) rear lens caps?
Thomasina Posted July 18, 2019 Share #14 Posted July 18, 2019 Sigma has rear cap for L-mount. I received mine today and tested it. It works on my Leica L-mount lenses. US$5 plus shipping. So much cheaper than US45! https://www.sigmaphoto.com/rear-cap-for-global-vision-lenses 3
