However, since their feet are located posteriorly on the body, loons cannot walk. Thus, loons avoid coming to land, except when nesting, mating, or severely injured. Welcome, dear visitor! I frequently swim in a lake where a pair of loons raise an annual family - and pop up in the water amazingly close.
