jto555 Posted May 30, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, is anybody using the Holdfast Money Maker (http://holdfastgear.com/collections/all)? If so, did you get the skinny version and is it better for Leica than the "normal" sized version? I am looking at getting the strap, but I am unsure if the normal size would be too large for the Leica. John
Advertisement Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Hi jto555, Take a look here Holdfast Money Maker. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bencoyote Posted May 31, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 31, 2016 I haven't bought one but I fondled one that a photographer was using because I thought it was cool. I think it may have been the normal one but didn't ask. I didn't know there was such a thing as a skinny one. My impression overall was like many things built for the big DSLR crowd it was designed to solve the problem of carrying around a huge amount of heavy gear. Happily, this is not as big of a problem for those of us toting rangefinders with tiny prime lenses. Then there is the baseplate issue. I hope the next M goes with the S, SL, T style battery rather than staying with the anachronistic baseplate. I really would like to change or charge my battery without having to remove my tripod plate.

Peter Kilmister Posted May 31, 2016 Share #4 Posted May 31, 2016 I used the word 'Nostalgia' earlier today on this forum. What goes around, comes around. The baseplate is dated but works well. A cheap piece of tin (or aluminium) that keeps everything dry and secure. What would you use instead? Suggestions please.

As to the OP: I think the thing is aptly named - for the producer.

I'm ok with it .....but it seems weird to have something extra to keep track of when removing the SD card to download pix .....something we all do very often. I use the word "nostalgia" because it was necessary to remove the bottom to load 35mm film .....but to take off the bottom of my camera and remove a tiny little SD card just kinda makes me smile and I think I'm loading a roll of film It just has an old fashion feel ....but that is what I love about the M ....and I do love this camera. ....replacement base plate $300 ...thats no cheap piece of tin
Peter Kilmister Posted June 1, 2016 Share #10 Posted June 1, 2016 Blimey, it really is brass! I didn't mean to be disparaging. Sorry for any offence caused.

mikemgb Posted June 3, 2016 Share #14 Posted June 3, 2016 I have a cross-shoulder strap similar to this for my Nikon, it makes it very easy to carry all day and allows for grabbing the camera for a quick shot. Granted the Leica isn't really suited to the quick shot but a strap like this would suit me. Wearing a camera around the neck causes it to bounce and it becomes uncomfortable after a while. Wearing it over one shoulder gives you the feeling of being a trendy hipster but means you have to take it off your shoulder for a photograph and leaves the camera more vulnerable to snatching by undesirables. I'd like to find something like this scaled proportionally to a Leica.
ECohen Posted June 3, 2016 Share #15 Posted June 3, 2016 To me the holdfast money maker looks like something John Dillinger would wear....is it comfortable? I'm an across the chest thin strap kinda guy extra long so I can just pick it up and shoot.

I'm an across the chest thin strap kinda guy extra long so I can just pick it up and shoot. By all accounts it is very comfortable and is even more comfortable than the Black Rapid strap. It also seems to be hand made to a very high standard and looks like a good match with Leica. I am hoping to get feed back from some users as to whether the "Skinny" or Original strap is the way to go, but there doesn’t seem to be any user on the site... jto555 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Share #17 Posted August 16, 2016 Right, I just did my first gig with my new "Skinny" version and it work perfectly. The camera is there when I needed it but out of the way when I did not need it. It hangs just behind the hip, unlike the Blackrapid which hangs beside the hip, and so is out of the way. One thing I did do was to oil the leather a few times when I got the strap to soften it up a little, and that seems to have worked out well. At the moment I am using the included safety lines to the camera but I will see how the attachement clip works out and I may remove the lines. It depends on how brave I feel!
