martinimages Posted May 29, 2016 Share #1  Posted May 29, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am shooting with a Leica M3, I have a Summicron 50 f2 and want to go a little wider, what's your advice on the Leica 3,5cm f3.5 Summaron with goggles, is this a good lens choice or am I better trying the Summaron with goggles f2.8 version, how do these to lens compare in optical quality, thanks in advance
Advertisement Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Hi martinimages, Take a look here Which 35. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TomB_tx Posted May 29, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted May 29, 2016 The goggled versions do help framing with an M3. For mine I have a goggled v1 35 Summicron. The goggles add distortion, reflections, and lower contrast to the viewfinder, but of course don't affect the film image. The Summicron does give nice images, but I actually prefer the images from my 2.8 Summaron, a non-goggled version for my M2. It seems to have higher contrast than the v1 Summicron. I also have a 3.5 LTM Summaron from my IIIf. Lately I notice low contrast with it, as it has developed some internal haze. So whatever you find, use a flashlight to check for internal haze, as any of these without haze give nicer images than any with haze. You could get very good images with any of them. My preference is the 2.8 Summaron.
