Advertisement Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Hi gerhard.hagen, Take a look here Autofocus Adapter Canon EF to Leica SL by Novoflex. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rafikiphoto Posted June 2, 2016 Share #102 Posted June 2, 2016 I don't see a compatibility list on the Novoflex website yet. I have emailed them but I am interested in knowing about the 17-40L, the 24-70L and the 100-400L in addition to the Sigma 300mm f2.8.
ramarren Posted June 2, 2016 Share #103 Posted June 2, 2016 Might/could/would Novoflex be responsible for the promised R adapter L due for release at Photokina? dunk I strongly doubt it. Leica had prototypes on display even when the SL was announced last November. I think it's unlikely that they're outsourcing it.

We know that a major part of Novoflex income is production for other "high end" German photography companies.

We know that a major part of Novoflex income is production for other "high end" German photography companies. I believe most of the modern Leica adapters were made at Leica's Portugal facility. That is where they do much of their metal work or certainly did while head office was at Solms. I don't know if Leica repatriated some of the metalwork, once they moved back to the far bigger new facility at Wetzlar but this would have required relocating many of their highly trained Portuguese workforce, so probably not. Both my R to M and M to T say "Made in Portugal". Wilson
gerhard.hagen Posted June 3, 2016 Share #106 Posted June 3, 2016 Just got a note from Novoflex to expect german delivery of the EOS - SL adapter friday or saturday. I ordered one week ago directly with Novoflex Hi everyone, well, i just took delivery of the Novoflex EOS -> Leica SL Adaptor and played a little bit with it. Optically there is no great difference to other Novoflex adaptors, the same finish and precision as always. No wobbling neither of the adaptor on the camera nor the lens on the adaptor. I couldn´t find an USB-port or something like that, so probably no firmware updates possible. There is a cryptic remark in the "user manual" consisting of just one page: "The adapters range of functions will be extended by firmware updates of the camera body in the future." The following functions are provided: - Autofocus in AFs mode - Manual focusing with "Focus magnifier" - Aperture control - AF / MF switching (lens and camera) - Depth of Field (values shown on top camera display) - EXIF data (aperture, focal length and lens info) Not provided is AFc (continuous AF) and IS Lens info (e.g. Canon TS-E 17mm f/4 L) is provided in the EXIF data and can be seen on the camera display ("Setup" "Lens Profile"). If the lens is not recognized, "Canon EF Lens Adapter for Leica SL" is shown. There is no list of supported lenses in the manual, so you have to test for yourself. A short test with my lenses shows the following: TS-E 17, TS-E 24 II and MP65 1x-5x Macro and EF 70-200 f/4 L IS USM is recognized. EF 50 STM and EF 600 L IS II and Tamron 150-600 is not recognized. A short AF test for the only supported AF lens (EF 70-200 f/4 L IS) i have, shows focus hunting and gives no sharp pictures so far, but i only have the adaptor for one hour. I´ll give it another try tomorrow with more light and report back Gerhard
Joshua Lowe Posted June 3, 2016 Share #107 Posted June 3, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) No AFc? Oh that's disappointing. I hope they can add it in a future update.
DavidM9 Posted June 4, 2016 Share #108 Posted June 4, 2016 I have a Canon 1Dx and several lenses. One of my favourite lenses is the 85mm F1.2. Super accurate and fast focusing with lovely bokeh. I wonder if the results will be as good with the SL? Also I had to fine tune the lens with my Canon body to get it super sharp. Will there be need for any fine tuning of the lens with the SL, and if yes, how would this be achieved?
su25 Posted June 4, 2016 Share #109 Posted June 4, 2016 .... A short AF test for the only supported AF lens (EF 70-200 f/4 L IS) i have, shows focus hunting and gives no sharp pictures so far..... Gerhard Hi Gerhard, Thank you for posting your experience with this adapter. I am sure you will try MF too. Although AF is desirable, it would be interesting to know whether MF is easy with focus peaking for EF lenses. And, most importantly, whether the images are as sharp as they are with a Canon camera. Thanks again.
Jeff S Posted June 4, 2016 Share #110 Posted June 4, 2016 Will there be need for any fine tuning of the lens with the SL, and if yes, how would this be achieved? One of the great benefits of the EVF is that you see what the sensor sees....like using live view on a Canon, except all the time, which doesn't require micro-adjustment between body and lens. Of course some prefer optical finders, despite the PITA adjustment issues. Jeff

Thanks again. Hi, MF and focus peaking works without any problems. The images are as sharp as on a Canon EOS 6D i had two years ago, which depends on the lens used. gerhard.hagen Posted June 7, 2016 Share #113 Posted June 7, 2016 Thanks Gerhard! I was curious as to whether you'd had a chance to make any further observations as to AF with the 70-200 f4? :-) Paul I´m sorry to say that the 70-200 L f/4 IS doesn`t AF with the adapter, at least not with my particular lens / adapter. Maybe Leica or Novoflex deliberately disabled the use of lenses that could harm the sales of their own SL lenses Maybe the 70-200 f/4 L without IS works, Gerhard
Ario Arioldi Posted June 7, 2016 Share #114 Posted June 7, 2016 Hi Gerhard, are you using a production sample or a prototype? My dealers here in Italy are expecting the first deliveries around mid July.

Gerhard It's a pity that AF doesn't function across the entire focal length. I would have assumed that it would AF at the widest fl. What about aperture settings? Is it possible to change aperture with the dials on SL? Thanks once again.

Changing the aperture works without any problems, even with the 50 STM which is not being recognized at all. Gerhard

For those lens that it is not compatible, can we still control the aperture? Is it only AF is not functional? Thank you.
steppenw0lf Posted June 8, 2016 Share #119 Posted June 8, 2016 As Gerhard has mentioned (if I understand correctly) aperture control works with "all" lenses, no matter if the lens type is recognized or not.
gerhard.hagen Posted June 8, 2016 Share #120 Posted June 8, 2016 Hi, how was the AF speed compare to the native 24-90 or 90-280mm? For those lens that it is not compatible, can we still control the aperture? Is it only AF is not functional? Thank you. Hi, AF speed was very slow (3-4 times slower) compared to the native lenses and autofocusing stopped with my lens (EF 70-200 f/4 L IS) before critical could be achieved. It was no problem to change aperture with non-compatible Canon lenses i have. The Tamron 150-600 did not work at all, neither AF nor change of aperture.
