Advertisement Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Hi jaapv, Take a look here M8 gives up due to humidity.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kmiles Posted August 25, 2007 Share #22 Posted August 25, 2007 I'm in Washington DC and decide to go for a stroll this morning with my M8. When I get outside, I notice it's pretty humid, but I don' t think much about it until I take the camera out of the bag for a shot -- maybe after about 30 minutes of walking. I turn the switch on and nothing happens. Then I notice the lens is fogged. I remove the battery and continue on for another hour, re-insert the battery. Nada. I remove the battery again and return to the hotel. After an hour in a cooler room, I try again. Nothing. I've had other cameras that started up after some drying out time. I have a sneaking suspicion that isn't the case this time. keith miles
kmiles Posted August 27, 2007 Share #23 Posted August 27, 2007 I am pleased -- and more than a little relieved -- to report that a 24 hour wait and a recharged battery brought my M8 back to life after humidity problems in Washington Saturday. I subsequently read that Saturday was one of the most humid days of the summer in Washington, with temperatures in the mid 90s. The shock of moving from a cool hotel room into the humid heat was apparently too much for the camera. Interestingly, I had no problems with any of the other electronics I was carrying, like phone and blackberry. keith miles
marknorton Posted August 27, 2007 Share #24 Posted August 27, 2007 Warm humid air striking cold surfaces is going to condense on the circuit boards and the conductivity of the water is more than enough to confuse the electronics. The problem is that the moisture is airborne and while rubber seals may make the camera resistant to water droplets, they do not hermetically seal it to make it air tight. That's different from Leica's binoculars, for example, some of which can quite happily be washed under running water. I agree with the comment about removing the battery if a camera gets soaked and if it gets soaked in salt water, the only sensible thing to do is to totally immerse it in repeated changes of fresh water and check your insurance policy. arnaudhaifa Posted August 27, 2007 Share #25 Posted August 27, 2007 This week end, in a swimming pool , I played with my son one hour with my motorola razr phone in the pocket of my bathsuit. After half a day under the heavy and very dry sun of the Negev the phone/camera was working again perfectly! Anyway I was happy it was not my M8, or have I found a new way to clean the captor?! 2 pictures of the location for pleasure Welcome, dear visitor! FastFashnReloaded Posted August 27, 2007 Share #26 Posted August 27, 2007 Soft travel hotel room camera. I hate Leica for doing that. The thing should be bullet proof. With the opportunity to tuck everything beneath an O ring sealed base plate the only thing that should not be waterproof could be the lens. It is because people buying Leica are far too accommodating in accepting rubbish from Leica. An R9 fills up with water in the rain. So what can you expect. Leica equals optics, not good cameras. Oh go and rant on AM talk radio, why dontcha? Sheesh.
