I was sitting here, wondering, and that is always the start of problems.  Would my old Tamron 500mm f/8.0 mirror lens work on the M240?  I have the VF-2 and the adapters so I gave it a try.  We have a cruise ship moored here until the end of Covid19.  Also we have the Oregon Responder which is an oil spill clean up vessel.  The phone pole is near a lot of folks if not this exact one.  And yes, the focus is a bit off.  This was more a proof of concept than anything else.  The VF-2 makes a lot of lenses work with the M240 and the old Tamron was sharper and with better color than I thought it would be.  I guess it will get a lot more use.

The more I use the M8.2 and the M240 the more glad I am I bought them.

@boojum Sorry to be brutal. Yes, you really need to get the focussing sorted out. Any photo that is out of focus will always struggle. Regatta is in focus but uninteresting, Ocean Responder is either out of focus or has shake. The last photo of electricity cables is a blur with nothing in focus. Are you struggling with focus. There are loads of people on here that can help. The great thing is that when you get focus spot on, which is easy with a rangefinder, the results are tremendous. IMO, too many people try to use wide open aperture when they haven't thought about the subject.  Far better to start with a medium aperture (f/5.6) and hone your skills. I hope my critical appraisal doesn't upset you.

This is a proof of concept for me.  Had it been a serious effort I would have had it on a tripod.  However it was handheld.  And, at 500mm the depth of field is quite shallow.  Thanks for the tips.

Using a 500mm lens on a rangefinder camera might be considered weird, especially hand held. I took some shots of the moon using an amazing set up of a Leica Televid 77 via several T and R adapters and an extension tube. All mounted on a tripod. The Televid spotting scope has no depth of field.  When you try to focus that far away it is almost impossible. The moon isn't flat and so parts of the image are out of focus even from that distance. It is was fun to try once. I did get recognition from LFI.Gallery but I don't think I will try again with that set up which probably turned the Televid into a 1200mm lens.

You may have overlooked where I mentioned use of a VF-2 which renders the M240 a virtual DSLR. That's the only way to focus the lens other than the SWAG method.   ;o)  Again, I just wanted to try it.  I will dig out a tripod for my next attempt.  In the past I have used this lens on my Sony A7M II but only with an object to brace or rest it upon.  This time it was an explosion of brash exuberance, "It works, it works!"  The VF-2 opens the door to a world of lenses.  Anything which can be adapted to the M mount is fair game.  I normally have a Pentax SMC 50mm f/1.4 FA on this camera.  The Tamron's Adaptal was for a Pentax K-mount so away I went.  I will try some more shots if the sun ever comes out again.  You may not be pleased but for me it performed better than expected.  As for the objects, that's what is out my back door.  I am self-isolating.  I'll see what I can scare up with some sunshine and a tripod.

Still working with the Tamron SP Mirror 500mm f/8.0.  For those unfamiliar with this lens it has the one f-stop so you had better just love f/8.0.  It is all you have.  https://www.opticallimits.com/Reviews/286-tamron-500mm-f8-sp-macro-adaptall-to-nikon-review--test-report And at 500mm things get flattened and the depth of field is not great.  I am just working on a "proof of concept" or "will the Tamron work on the M240?"  And as the other fellow so kindly pointed out, 500mm does work better stabilized especially if there is no internal camera stabilization.  So I dragged the lens and camera out early Saturday morning on a tripod.  I love that magnifier for a focusing aid.  And the two second delay meant that my finger on the shutter release would not be a problem.  In short, other than placing weights, like a jacket, on the camera top this was about as stable as it could be.  This photo is a bit better.  It is just an example of what can be done with an oddball, long focus lens on a camera you would not think it would work on.  Again, the (E)VF-2 makes things wonderful.  We are able to experiment.

No, the subject matter is not very interesting but it is what lies at my back door and I am pretty much restricted to that for a few weeks.

I'm not familiar with the lens but I'm interested in the concept.  What is the native mount?  I'm assuming it's not Leica.  I have a Nikon 85 1.4D  and I've wondered what kind of results I'd get if I can find a Nikon to Leica adapter.

The Tamron SP 500 comes with an Adaptal mount.  This means that Adaptal offers a bare bones mount upon which any number of mounting adapters which they sell can be mounted.  This lens has the Pentax K-mount lens adapter.  I have used it with a K > E mount on my Sony A7M II with modest success.  I have a K > M mount for the Leica to use my SMC Pentax 50mm f/1.4 so I thought I would give it a try.  That is not an aberration across the photo, we had some fog rolling in when I took the photo.

The trick with regular/other adapters is that the lens you would like to adapt to your Leica M mount must also be able to use the Leica RF mechanism.  If not it is off to eBay with you to buy a VF-2 or EVF-2 bypassing the RF and using the camera as a virtual DSLR.  That means Live View is activated and intercepted by the electronic view finder which will cut into your battery time.  Small price to pay.  With the magnifier button depressed you can really focus with the EVF.  I like it.

As for the mirror lens, this is the lessor of the Tamron SP 500's.  The later one is a bit sharper and gives a bit better color.  The newer ones do not have a ribbed barrel but a nubbed barrel and run ~$100 to ~$150.  One trade-off is that the newer lens has no tripod mount on it.  I will pester the forum with some more photos as I can and when we get sunshine.  This is the rainiest city in the continental US which means winters are wet.  I may resort to a sunshine dance.

They literally have no owners and live in a patch of waste ground. I'd imagine they'd be a feral

I went back the other day and there's actually 3 of them (all black, all looking the same) - someone's made them a shelter out of an old plastic box
