Philip.

My (now late) father took me there back in the early1980s, maybe I was 7 or 8. I've only been back once since then, but your shot is closer to my boyhood memory!

Thanks very much for the story, Adam. Oddly enough I can empathise with your reaction very easily.

When I was a child and at a similar age to yourself (as mentioned above) my grandparents had an old set of encyclopediae and there, under 'Dinosaur', there were two photographs which I thought showed 'REAL' dinosaurs in a Prehistoric Swamp! Absolutely Amazing!!! These were, of course, images which had been shot in the park. Fast-forward 30-odd years and I found myself living not 200 metres from the very same lake with the very same dinosaurs I had looked upon in wonderment in my childhood.

Funny how some memories are so very vivid regardless of the timescale involved.

I still live less than a mile from the park and being able to meander around it in these bizarre times it brings a very welcome sense of comfort and stability.

Thank you Philip,

I love how they’ve been left as was and not updated with modern information about how these animals might have looked and their posture etc

We moved from London when I was a babe in arms, but I’ve many memories of been taken to the NHM (which was closer to where we had friends and family).

I usually make time for a visit there on my occasional London trip, but I’m a little underwhelmed that the diplodocus isn’t in the main hall any more!

Covid + the fact I live in Portugal now means that I think it’ll be a while before I get there again!
