The two firmware updates since launch have added functionality of real world value.

I'm starting this thread to collate wishlists for the future.

Mine include:

- Electronic shutter at "normal" speeds (e.g. 1/60) for silent shooting.

- Option to extend the exposure below the slow limit in AutoISO (e.g. break the 1/f rule once the upper ISO limit has been reached).

- Option for full time exposure preview (including for ambient light while using flash).

- EVF indicator that the light level is outside the calibration range of the exposure metering system.

- User-control of long exposures (no post-shot mandatory noise reduction).

I'm sure others will occur to me.

Option to place DNGs on chip #1, JPGs on chip #2

Ability to name the directory into which new exposures are put (consistent on both chips).  As is done on M240.

Rollover directory by 1 when 9999 exposures have been taken.

PS:  I'm not a user of flash or AF at present, but +1 to the suggestions of electronic silent shutter option at normal speeds, and to shutter speed less than minimum once max auto ISO is reached.

I agree with all your stuff Paul, Scott, Peter

a couple more:

1. when shooting with no information in the viewfinder (lovely) changing the settings (Aperture, Shutter Speed or exposure compensation) should briefly show the exposure settings again (as it does in the T)

2. More important - when shooting with spot exposure metering with manual lenses (excellent as you can move the spot with the joystock). Please could the zoom in zoom into the spot where the exposure reading is - not the centre of the image.

Like the night panel in a SAAB.

The self-timer offers only 2 seconds (often too short) or 12 seconds (usually far too long). A 5 second self-timer option would be very useful. Recently when using long focal length manual focus lenses I lost the best composed opportunities because after the 12 second delay the subject had gone - and when using the 2 second option the camera was still vibrating when the shutter fired. I could use a remote release but it's one more gadget to carry or lose in the dark thus prefer a self-timer.

I miss mine also - a Saab 96V4.

Actually, we do still have a 1994 Saab turbo S convertible ( one of the last two delivered) We bought it in 1996, and it had one careful lady owner (Barbara Dickson). No night panel there!

The last SAab I bought was a 9-3 04 reg Aero with a Hirsch thingy..

That's actually my present car, 04 Aero - cabrio, dark blue with blue roof!. Still going like the wind, only 125.000 KM on the clock

Coincidence, I am sure.......

+1 on this

The main thing that needs to be fixed is the exposure peaking facility. At the moment it is a separate viewing mode, but often I want to be able to switch it on / off in the current viewing mode (often when I have zoomed in in manual focus by pressing the joystick). Similarly, I want to be able to switch the level mode on / off.

Use case (as the Americans would say): compose (cityscape / landscape) in full clean screen mode; push the joystick to zoom in for fine focus and peaking kicks in; push something and get the level while it is held in to fine control horizon. Release shutter.

We need a fast way to get the auto-focus spot back to its centre location.

I've been using the toggle to step it back to the middle - basically reversing the toggle movements I used to get it to where I wanted to focus. But this is time-consuming.

I suggest that two options could be included in the next firmware update:

  1. A long press of the toggle causes the focus point to jump back to its centre location
  2. Double-tap on the touch-screen also causes the focus point to go back to the centre

These should be easy fixes so it'd be great to see them in the next release.

Number 1 for me is the ability to adjust the brightness of the EVF.

It is too dark in bright outside conditions.

The M240 and the T both have the ability to adjust the brightness of the EVF independently of the LCD.

The SL only has the ability to adjust the LCD brightness.

A request which I had thought of earlier. The ability to change the size of the spot meter circle.

I had taken a few group portraits with backlighting and sometimes the spot is too big to isolate a face (for example) and as a result, you might get underexposed people.

The direct exposure compensation has alleviated this need a little bit, but it still would be nice to have the ability to adjust that spot up or down based on your needs.

Also, on this spot, it would be nice to have the ability to keep it in the same position when you rotate the camera from landscape to portrait and back.

I tend to take a lot of pictures in portrait orientation.

An example:

If you are holding the camera in landscape orientation and are metering off something that is in the bottom right of the frame, when you change to portrait, the metering spot now is in the top right of the frame.

So then you have to grab the joystick, and push down down down down down some more and eventually you get it back to where it was in the bottom right of the frame.

Or what I do, I take my face away from the view finder, the LCD becomes active, I then push the part of the screen where I want the spot to be, and then I put my eye back to the viewfinder.

It would be nice to have the ability to toggle on/off the spot/focus auto rotation with camera orientation. (e.g. bottom right stays bottom right if the camera is in landscape or portrait)

Can the EVF be switched to black and white?  If not then that would be a big one on my list.  Switching LV/EVF to monochrome on the M240 was very, very useful when composing shots.

If you set the JPEG processing to monochrome, the viewfinder display is also monochrome. DNG files are, of course, unaffected and provide either color or B&W depending upon how you process them.

Cool then that is perfect as-is.

My top priority requests would be:

1) User selectable Long Exposure Noise Reduction for DNG images - this should have happened long ago.

2) Proper control over the memory cards -- we need a configurable menu that treats each card separately for playback & record, including options of selectable DNG or JPG to each or both. Also a copy function to move selected files from card to card.

3) Better control over live view overlays -- configurable menu that allows the user to choose exactly what they want to see. If you want peaking, level, histogram, whatever, even all of those together, then the menu shoould let you configure it and display it.

4) Better control over the magnification cursor, with some sort of memory for last placement AND easy return to center.

5) Selectable full time exposure preview.
