SL with Canon speedlites

I've bought the SF-40 flash. Small and nice. Like it.

I still have two Canon 'legacy' speedlites I haven't sold, and an infrared transmitter that can tigger them. I wonder if it would work on SL. I haven't tried it because I'm unsure if putting the Canon transmitter into the SL's hotshoe is a safe thing to do. Is there a chance it may short circuit it and damage the SL?

The Canon E-TTL system is neither pin-compatible nor protocol-compatible with the Leica TTL flash control system. It will most likely not damage anything, but it will only fire the flash units at maximum manual power output.

Personally, I wouldn't risk my $7500 SL camera body as a testbed for whether someone else's flash unit can be used.

You can use the Canon speedlites, and many others, in manual mode by the cactus v6 adapters. Have a look on http://Www.cactus-image.com

This sounds good, however I'm selling my Canon speedlites.

Going forward, FYI, I will use Profoto B2 lights and their generic transmitter. In the interim, I'm using Impact transmitter, receiver(s) and strobe and modifiers. Works well with any camera.

1.1 firmware Canon can be, since the 1.2 started off

I can now confirm that TTL-passthrough works perfekt with SF 64 and SF 40 and also trigger remote flashs in manual mode. It seems that I did a mistake in the the configuration of the cactus.

You have made your point.  Maybe you should just sell your camera as it appears to be unsuitable for you.

Nothing worse than a misconfigured cactus. Could be quite dangerous in the wrong hands. :)

You gotta love spell-checkers...

Cactus is a flash-adapter, in this case it's not autocorrect :)
