huckles Posted April 13, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 13, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, further to my review and thoughts on the Q. Is it just my Q or when you swipe the screen vertical either way it brings up previews. However, you may not want this, as I don't as when your walking around with the Q hanging from your neck, the rubbing on your clothing brings up the previews. Thus consuming power and keeping the camera on. You can't turn off touchscreen in the menus. just a thought to see if you guys have come across this. Cheers, Van. Advertisement Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Hi huckles, Take a look here A Leica Q 'quirk' that no one has mentioned yet... . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
huckles Posted April 13, 2016 Author Share #2 Posted April 13, 2016 of course, if you use the EVF exclusively and not the LCD you will not encounter this problem, but when shooting with the LCD, this is a problem.

Herve5 Posted April 13, 2016 Share #4 Posted April 13, 2016 (...) you may not want this, as I don't as when your walking around with the Q hanging from your neck, the rubbing on your clothing brings up the previews. Do you mean, you need to snap pictures so fast when walking that you cannot wait for the, what, half-second startup time when switching on the camera? (all the more than the 'on' command is operated straight from the trigger button) I must say I for one use to switch on and shoot... (I also feel like walking everywhere with the camera always on is a bit less safe)
huckles Posted April 13, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted April 13, 2016 no, an image preview remains on the screen when you don't want it to. So when you grab your camera to shoot you have to get out of the preview screen. try it, swipe the lcd when in live view. It's pretty annoying especially when you try and conserve the battery. matlep Posted April 13, 2016 Share #6 Posted April 13, 2016 It has never happened to me, and i keep my camera around my neck all the time. Maybe you just need to put on a shirt huckles? (Just kidding)

huckles Posted April 13, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted April 13, 2016 So if you swipe with your fingers now when your using liveview (swipe up or swipe down), it doesn't take you to image preview?
matlep Posted April 13, 2016 Share #10 Posted April 13, 2016 So if you swipe with your fingers now when your using liveview (swipe up or swipe down), it doesn't take you to image preview? Yes it does. But it does not happen if i do not use my finger to actively do it. For example, it does not happen when the camera is just hanging around my neck while i walk around. Gulliver Posted April 13, 2016 Share #11 Posted April 13, 2016 I have the same beautiful Angelo Pello half-case as Lucena and the backcover is very effective in providing protection.
Voxen Posted April 13, 2016 Share #12 Posted April 13, 2016 So if you swipe with your fingers now when your using liveview (swipe up or swipe down), it doesn't take you to image preview? Yes it does, but it never happens when my Q hangs on my chest. Its still winter here so I wear heavy clothes, maybe with a simple tee-shirt it can happen, I'll see this summer. marchyman Posted April 14, 2016 Share #13 Posted April 14, 2016 So if you swipe with your fingers now when your using liveview (swipe up or swipe down), it doesn't take you to image preview? As others have said, yes it does with an up or down finger swipe but not at any other time (that I've noticed). And when it does it with a finger swipe a half press on the shutter brings the camera back to shooting mode in about half a second.
Leica Guy Posted April 14, 2016 Share #14 Posted April 14, 2016 Likewise a easy swipe up on the rear screen also returns to live view. I'm kind of liking this along with turning off any automatic preview. Saves on battery charge and yet I can very easily review an image when I want to. TDR Posted June 24, 2016 Share #15 Posted June 24, 2016 How do you turn the LCD screen off?
millsart Posted June 24, 2016 Share #16 Posted June 24, 2016 I wear mine around my neck all the time and never have had any issues with my body contacting the screen. I have mine set to auto power off, so after about a minute or so the camera powers off on its own, and a simply half press of the shutter "wakes" it back up very quickly. Much easier than turning the switch on/off (I always go to motor drive mode on accident lol) Only "issue" I have with the touch screen is that I can't have it work like a typical Panasonic where you can have it set to "face detect" AF mode, and then if you want "one spot" you just touch on the screen and place the focus point where you want. Then there is a little "af cancel" box you can tap to go back to wide area face detect. Works great and Leica could stand to implement it. As it stands, its a PITA to have to go into the menu to switch from face detect to one spot AF modes, not to mention that you can't use the refocus button with the touch to select AF point mode..... though you can drag the point around in one spot mode, which is a handy feature I do like. mon10a Posted June 24, 2016 Share #17 Posted June 24, 2016 How do you turn the LCD screen off? This is awkward on the Q: Menu/Display Settings/EVF. Unfortunately, after you do this, you can view the menu only through the EVF. (Ugh) To go back to auto detecting EFV or LCD: Menu/Display Settings/Auto High Sensitivity or Auto Low Sensitivity m
TDR Posted June 24, 2016 Share #18 Posted June 24, 2016 Thanks. I would never have figured that out. I want to be able to turn off the screen so that it doesn't light up my face when I'm working in low light. Also, there's the battery drain. In his review of the Q, Thorsten Overgaard suggest putting cloth tape over the EVF sensor, but I'd rather not take that route if I can avoid it. Tim Bit confused by what your trying to accomplish here.... Why do you need to put cloth tape over the sensor ? Why not just set the camera to be EVF mode only ???
