Help setting the Q

Hi guys,

My friend handed me his Q to test it, I've been trying to find out why it's not saving the settings for more than an hour now, no success:-(

I put AF mode to 1 point, AF assist lamp to off and other things but as soon as I press the shutter release button, the camera goes back to AF multi point! I tried setting it without saving to user preset, and also by saving to user preset. Same problem, camera never remembers my settings.

Software is 1.1 so it's the latest I guess. Help me please.

After configuring the camera with all your special settings, you would "save as , user profile" 1, 2, 3, or 4.   Next, you have to "select" that user profile.

That should be ok, and the settings should remain until you choose a different user profile.

if that procedure still fails, then I think that the internal battery has not charged (from the main battery), and is not memorising the configuration.  The way I understand this camera is that there is a second (internal) battery which is charged from the main battery. There may be a problem with that part of the camera.  There have been forum discussions about the internal configuration memory. A search should  reveal what was discussed.

Hope that helps

Thanks so much for the tip. It could be internal battery, for now the Q has retained my setting changes, but after reading your post, I tried to save to user 1 and the camera chased the AF to multiple point again! I had to set it back to default user and go over it again, without saving to a user preset. It's working but something is odd still. I'll give it a try today, as the internal battery must have been charged by now.

Rodrigue, I am looking forward to see your work with the Q; is going to be a lethal combination.

I am still amazed by your "run run run" series!

Thanks so much rivi, glad you liked the run series, my favorite too :-)

The Q looks promising indeed, haven't clicked it outdoors, all clicks were at home checking and testing, can't wait to take it for a spin. I'll report soon. Stay tuned.

Be aware that, if you prepare a first 'user 1' profile, then re-select the default profile thinking you will find back the settings you had previously, in fact selecting default does blank everything back to REAL default settings (for instance : jpeg only pics, etc.)

So, when you have defined some specific default settings that you want to get back to, well, by default fater another alternate profile, you have to actually define a profile for this too.

I'm not sure it's clear but to me you need to :

- define what will be your default settings

- immediately save these as the first profile

- then change settings to define what will be your e. g. 'museum settings'

- immediately save theses as the second profile

- potentially continue the settings game

- whenever you want to get back to your default settings, SELECT THE FIRST PROFILE (and nooot the default one that just blanks everything).

The preset 'default' setting is almost totally useless, it's basically a 'reset camera, just without deleting the other settings' action.

It should be listed LAST in the list, not first IMHO...

Yes, default means factory settings, I'm forced to go the in order to start over again, because I I don't do that, some settings becomes grey and can't change them. This is a software glitch I guess.

Long live the M :-)
