jimleicam3 Posted April 7, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 7, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) My new Q is finally on its way after a long delay. I was wondering which case or half case are people using? I have always purchased a Leica half case for my X2 and M8. Also, has anyone used a screen protector? I have never used one in the past. Cheers
Advertisement Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Hi jimleicam3, Take a look here Case and screen protector. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lucerne Posted April 8, 2016 Share #2 Posted April 8, 2016 There are a few suppliers - including Leica - of half-cases. I suggest you use the search facility on this forum (top of this page) to read about what is available. We've discussed it often since the camera first became available. Just search "Q case" . At the end of the day, it's a question of personal taste, because some very nice half cases incorporate grips which makes them better value than buying a case and grip separately. Look out for Lim's leather case on EBay. It's excellent quality. However, I'm not a fan of screen protectors. Again, there will be discussions already on the forum. Good luck. KLManhattan Posted April 8, 2016 Share #3 Posted April 8, 2016 I bought the Arte di Mano half case with battery door/SD card access and I love it. It is on the high side price wise, but you can use a tripod with the case on and it has a small built in grip. If you are interested the Miami Leica store carries them and you can view them on their site.
Leica Guy Posted April 8, 2016 Share #4 Posted April 8, 2016 Ditto on the Arte di Mano case. I ordered mine directly from Korea. Smooth transaction using PayPal. Absolutely top quality. I got the Minerva Black with Aventino grip and the battery / SD Card door. Works and looks fantastic. Expensive.
Belle123 Posted April 8, 2016 Share #5 Posted April 8, 2016 I will third the Arte Di Mano cases. Worth it. Use for both Q and M.
kikouyou Posted April 8, 2016 Share #6 Posted April 8, 2016 I got a scratch on my M as I did not feel like putting a screen protector on it. Since then I sold it and got the M-P which indeed does not need one. However, I have installed one (the Leica one) on the Q. It is mat and pretty thick. Does not go in the way of the touch screen. But is definitely removing some transparence...
Leica Guy Posted April 13, 2016 Share #7 Posted April 13, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I added the Leica Q screw protector. Yes, it has a bit of a "haze" for lack of a better descriptor. I find it completely workable. Fine. It protects the LCD and that's important to me. I try to use the EVF when possible. I still wish their was a menu option for only EVF for taking photos and LCD just for image reviews and menu. "It's good to want things!"
Leica Guy Posted April 19, 2016 Share #8 Posted April 19, 2016 It may be heresy, but I've covered the red dot, top and the area around the video button with black gaffer tape. Also the hood. I actually like the look and I worry far less about a scratch from handling or moving in / out of the camera bag. I'm told that covering the red dot is a good idea for reducing interest by potential thieves. Anyone else "uglified" their beautiful Q? I don't use a lens cap anymore. The hood is great protection. I do have a UV filter in front of the lens. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Voxen Posted April 19, 2016 Share #9 Posted April 19, 2016 I couldn't uglify such a beautiful camera! I just changed the red Leica logo for a black one, much more discrete.

sumolux Posted April 19, 2016 Share #11 Posted April 19, 2016 For me the Leica half case is excellent and well designed as far as I am concerned and much cheaper than other solutions to boot, as I don't need an extra built in grip. The Acc-Maxx protector is thicker and not hazy, but you need to press a bit for any touch functions, however, it works fine and offers better protection than the Leica protector. Instead of a case proper I am using the Hard Graft folding case, which is brilliant, well padded and folds away when not needed. This case, and a back-uup battery in your pocket is all you might need on a weekend trip.

sumolux Posted April 19, 2016 Share #14 Posted April 19, 2016 I am so used to Billinghams on my shoulder that just traveling with this gives a sense of freedom. And it will also fit my M4 and MP, so it's a no brainer.
