matlep Posted April 7, 2016 Author Share #21 Posted April 7, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there any sentences about upcoming firmware update with new features? I haven't seen any rumours with any substance in them, so no. But on the other hand Leica is very good at releasing updates now and then for their cameras. But only if they agree that something is broken. Not sure that is the case with the Q.

win-win Posted April 7, 2016 Share #22 Posted April 7, 2016 From dpreview: Requests for firmware fixes Almost every operational shortcoming we found in the Q could conceivably be fixed via a firmware update. Here's our 'top ten' list of what we would love to see addressed in the future. Additional options for customizing the Fn and Zoom / Lock buttons Ability to customize the functions of the 'Movie Record' button, the rear control dial, and the four-way controller Better organization of autofocus modes between AF-S and AF-C Allow four-way controller to function in Touch AF and Touch AF + Release, as well as allow camera to re-focus on chosen point with a half-press of the shutter in Touch AF Turn screen and viewfinder fully off when the camera is shut off while writing a burst Allow capture of DNG-only files, as well as DNG compression Allow for complete disabling of touchscreen Enable touch-to-focus functionality during video recording Better menu organization In playback mode, zooming in should zoom to focus point and allow for navigating between images while zoomed in
michi_rishi Posted April 7, 2016 Share #23 Posted April 7, 2016 I only have 2 wishes: 1 custom designation of movie button (that will be a hard choice between AEL and wifi for me). 2 control over menu items under Fn button
sumolux Posted April 7, 2016 Share #24 Posted April 7, 2016 Yes, but I wouldn't say it works the way i want it to. If you set AFL on the thumb. And start by measuring the exposure and lock it with a half press on the shutter. The camera will not focus when you press the thumb button. I have worked that way for many years on my Canons. I never used Canon, so I am looking at it differently, but for me, the current method is the best. It feels much easier to press my thumb for AFL on the back button first, and then depress the shutter; keeping the light pressure constant on the index finger before pressing with my thumb is just tricker for me if moving around a subject. On the subject of more configurable button possibilities in another post: No thanks. I am not shooting every day of the week and invariably forget any complicated button arrangements that depart too much from the basis. I think Leica got it perfect in this case. It would however be nice to have more options to choose from in the FN menu. I would rather quickly reassign the FN button for what I am doing at a given moment, than change other buttons that are already sensibly laid out. A second FN button, like in the Ricoh GR, might be even easier and preferable in some new iteration of the Q if one requires more assignable features? Only small peeve is the distraction of the OID symbol in the viewfinder. I would prefer it to only be there if it is on. I am always checking whether it has the little 'x' in its corner for some reason each time.

More options on what to put on the already configurable buttons, is what I meant in my original post. Apart from the Video button of course, but id be happy for the option of just turning it off. Yes of course. But I wish it would be possible to do it both ways, it´s not now.
Leica Guy Posted April 7, 2016 Share #27 Posted April 7, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) For me the current method for focusing with the Zoom button on the Q is illogical. I've used Canon DSLR's for more than a decade and the way it's implemented there using custom settings works really well. The beauty of it is you use servo focusing which is continuous focusing as long as the back button is pushed. When you release the button it locks in the last focus setting. I can be looking through tree branches and when I get the focus I like, I simply remove my finger from pushing the button. The focus is locked. Very easy once you re-train your brain to function in this way.
