Well, this interview from October last year states something else:

But of course, it was a few months ago :) :). Let's hope they do not cancel it and instead invest some good money into making it stable.

It gets funnier and funnier,

Leica has invested an heavy amount and presented a bright range of S lenses and have -besides the AF "issue" which I am sure can be solved (I still don't have an issue with my 8 S-lenses).

They were early to bring a compact medium format camera, as Fuji and Hassy show there is a "trend" for such cameras.

Also The S is different enough from x1d and Phase and Fuji in regards of aspect ratio, viewfinder and some other things that there is room for various products in this range. Why on earth should the give up the S system????

I think as soon as brands don't feed the customers with info all the time, speculations begin. But sometimes the speculations are so unrealistic and unlogic, that I just cant take them serious. I don't know what will happen, but there certainly have been speculations as well that a higher MP S-body is in the pipeline. But as I said, also just speculations.

For my part I am still pretty happy with the todays offerings of the S system, I just wish Leica would manage to give good and fast support to ALL customers in ALL countries. I have very good experience with service/support, but we read too often that there are also people who have totally different experience.

I don't think that speculation is unrealistic or unlogical. It's been something that has been discussed and gathering momentum for sometime and all the while there is only an apparent lack of action and not much evidence of any sort of energy being directed into the system, just a whole lot of angry hot air being blown about by frustrated and neglected owners. Some R owners seemed to have been blindsided by the decision to EOL that system so it is really so unrealistic or unlogical for S owners to be worried? Given that people have so much invested in the system and are so worn down from poor service, I understand why they are so touchy about it.

Rather, the said reader at digiloyd has some explaining to do or, perhaps, digiloyd. Or do you have any hard facts which help telling it from slander?

Digilloyd is consistently negative to Leica and fires up his audience the same way. He often issues strong negative statements on the free blog, and modifies them after som time behind the paywall, I guess it's a way to make a living.

You know what, he often tests cameras at Pescadero Creek in California. I live in Norway, and once I went to California I asked him if he could guide me to a nice spot along that creek. He would not tell !! It was a secret !!!  But I found my spot. With the S and the 24, my favourite. If you wanna know where, I can tell you ;-)

with unrealistic and unlogic I refered to the speculation Leica getting out of the S-System.

I find it "totally" logic and realistic and understand that those people who have problems with lenses AND/OR support are angry, disappointed, worried.

It's true that Digilloyd is very biased against Leica. Though to be fair, to have spent that much on Leica and see little return/value, as well as lack of futureproofing, is very aggravating.

That picture looks nice (though it could use a little more post processing)

I remember Stephan Schulz personally commenting in this forum.

Do Leica personnel still participate? Doesn't have to be him of course. That would be an extremely easy way to allay users' concerns and quell negative rumors.

From my recent experience of getting my S 007 repaired, I have the sense that Leica is trying to be proactive about S issues (personalized and speedy responses, quick dispatch of loaner unit). Hopefully they will also do the very simple PR part.

I've been wondering a little bit about this. Are the lenses truly limited to the 54mm image circle? I'm still waiting for my first S-lens (the first one I got had fungus...) but I'm currently playing with making a "larger dummy sensor" to see it that could be an option :).  If Leica were to increase the sensor size to say 50mm*35mm (60,65mm image circle) and at the same time bump the resolution to 80MP (if they keep the pixel pitch of 6u it would get 48MP) it might get competetive again:

"Standard sensor":

50*35mm:

Of course I don't know if this actually will work with all the sensor, but the S-mount seems at least able to handle an increased sensor size. Maybe a new S008 mirrorless body with focal plane shutter also could be an option.

I am sorry, but Leica S lens is only limited to about 58mm ~60mm image circle. I was told by Alpa as they were interested in producing a Alpa 12FPS mount for leica S but Leica has no interest in opening up the source code for S lens and the small image circle of the S makes it less appealing. I was forever searching for a '1 lens' system for both technical and handheld shooting for my work. So far, failed in every attempt maybe except Contax 645...

RIP Contax 645. You were too good for this world. :(
