Louis Posted April 3, 2016 Share #3 Posted April 3, 2016 Joshua, Venice Beach is one of my favorite places to shoot and never miss spending a few hours every time I am in LA. I always enjoy seeing photos shot in this area and thank you for sharing your nice photos. The guy in your first shot is a part of Venice and quite well known by everyone. I also shot him in several occasions. The first one is when he was younger, and the second, two years ago, maybe on the same bench as in your shot! Welcome, dear visitor! Joshua Lowe Posted April 4, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted April 4, 2016 Thank you, Louis. And the bench is definitely the same spot, at the corner of the weightlifting cage. The gentleman's name is Bill Pettis. He's well known in the Venice Beach community and has a place in its history. He was photographed by Garry Winogrand in 1984, for the summer Olympics. His story is extraordinary in its ups and downs. http://www.lamag.com/longform/rise-fall-bill-pettis-man-biggest-arms-world/2/
Louis Posted April 4, 2016 Share #5 Posted April 4, 2016 Thanks for the interesting story, Josh. I wasn't aware how famous he was. I was seeing him accepting money from tourists to pose for them! BTW, it also seems he is wearing the same socks in my last shot as in your shot! Next time I see him, I should be more generous to him!
