jackal Posted June 4, 2007 Share #22 Posted June 4, 2007 why are those shots "maximum" im struggling a bit there with that and what have they got to do with street photography ?
jaapv Posted June 4, 2007 Share #23 Posted June 4, 2007 They have nothing to do with street photography as such, but everything to limiting oneself to one lens. I don't think "street photography" stands apart from the photographic mainstream. And maximum: my satisfaction factor. The 50 might not be bad in the street: small, unobtrusive, and great for more closely framed shots. Not for "from the hip"shooting obviously.
jackal Posted June 4, 2007 Share #24 Posted June 4, 2007 nope, on an M8 its real bad for street photography you can't get bugger all in the shot
sean_reid Posted June 5, 2007 Share #25 Posted June 5, 2007 Hi Sean. I have used an older version of the Summicron 35mm. But as I shoot a lot of party & people I would love to have a Lux. What do you recommend? Do you mean which 35? If yes, I'd have to say that my two favorite 35s are the 35/1.4 Lux and the CV 35/2.5 Skopar. I'm testing the 35s right now, however, and (among the current Leica, Zeiss and CV models) there isn't a bad one in the bunch. Cheers, Sean
Nocti-Luchs Posted June 5, 2007 Share #26 Posted June 5, 2007 A nice and most compact but unexpensive alternative for an one lens outfit would be the Summicron C 2/40. Mine is modified and shows the 35 mm frames which are very exact for this lens. This alone is a good reason to get this lens. I take it when the 35 Lux is too big for the occasion. ChrisC Posted June 5, 2007 Share #27 Posted June 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sean - I am really keen to see the 35 mm reviews, but I'm encouraged that the CV 35/2.5 Skopar has made a favourable impression. How long before you are able to publish? ...................Chris
DaveEP Posted June 5, 2007 Share #28 Posted June 5, 2007 Given a choice it would have to be between the 28/2.8 (for size) and the Tri-Elmar 28-35-50. The 28 is my most used lens by a long way....

Leica DeOcean Posted June 5, 2007 Share #30 Posted June 5, 2007 Patrick In my very (very) recent introduction to and history with Leica and the M8, I have most often used the 35 Summilux ASPH. In fact, that lens is resident on the M8 most of the time until I encounter a unique need of one of the other lenses (Noctilux, 75 lux, or 28 cron). It seems to have become my most "all around" lens for street photography. Good luck in making your choice.

Guest Olof Posted June 5, 2007 Share #33 Posted June 5, 2007 Hi All. Using the M8, I want to concentrate myself on one lens only. I shoot mostly street and people. What would you suggest? 24mm, because of the possibility to become a great hyperfocal distance which ist great for FAST pictures...
wparsonsgisnet Posted June 5, 2007 Share #34 Posted June 5, 2007 I would recommend the 35 'lux-A. I would not recommend any of the 35's pre-asph, as they flare way too much. The pre-a I had was worthless compared to the asph I replaced it with. I use the 24 and the 35 'lux-A most of the time. I also carry the 50 'lux-A and the 75 'lux. Both the 24 and 35 are top-notch lenses. Based on some of the posts here, when you get the 35 you should check it in the store for focus.

wlaidlaw Posted June 5, 2007 Share #39 Posted June 5, 2007 If you only have one lens, you have to remember that evolution has given us a built in zoom - our feet. Then it is a matter of what you want to achieve in street photography. Intimate shots of faces then go with a 50mm - I like the Elmar-M for it's tiny size and speed of focus. If you want people in context and with lots of background then go with 24 or 28mm. Something in between - then it's a 35mm. My choice would be between a Summicron or a Biogon. I don't think you have to have a fast lens, as often for street photography, the shallow DOF can be a disadvantage. Wilson
cme4brain Posted June 5, 2007 Share #40 Posted June 5, 2007 Hi All. Using the M8, I want to concentrate myself on one lens only. I shoot mostly street and people. What would you suggest? I would think the 21mm focal length (effective FOV of a 28mm) or a 28mm focal length lens. I would suggest you think about Voigtlander lenses- you can buy many for a fraction of the price of leica glass, and at shooting apertures they are excellent lenses- difficult to tell apart from Leica.
