Sensor replacement turn around time?

Greetings.  I sent the M9 to NJ mid December 2015, and it came back first week of April 2016.  Within a week or so, NJ provided an estimated return time of February 5, but was moved back to end of March.  The entire transaction was handled through Leica Store in DC, and as always, they were very courteous and efficient.  The time was slightly a longer period than what I would have really liked, but acquiring an M240 at the same time helped a lot.  Enjoy in good health.

I have to send mine in for the second time and Leica NJ quoted 3 month turnaround.  The first time was less than 1 month (2014). At least I got a Q but I am not so sure what to do with the M9 when it comes back. It will be close to Photokina time and possibly i find something which will replace the M9 and likely will be not from Leica.

The M9 replacement is already available to buy now, the M262. I love mine. I currently have two M9's, but that's about to change. I'm giving the grey one to a friend this weekend. The black paint M9, converted to M9-P has been with Leica NJ since January for sensor replacement. Was quoted April 5 as the approximate return date, but not a word has been said and no M9 has returned. Once back, it's going to be my second body for another year or two....assuming I have it back by then, LOL...

I just received my M9 with the new sensor on Monday of this week.  It was sent in on Oct. 1, 2015.  Be sure to follow up with them and keep all records of discussions.  It took way longer than anyone told me it would take, but the camera seems to be in good working order now after some test shots.  We will see.

Wow, that is a long time.

 

I had a shutter replaced on my M9 in NJ in 2015, which took about 2 months. My impression is NJ is not well organized as I would get various estimates depending on who I talked with. Despite my entreaty to email the original estimate right away, they mailed it LOL

 

I don't have the newest sensor, but mine is the second gen, new in 2013. So far, knock on wood, no corrosion.

If you get one wherr the new sensor has been installed, you should be ok. I just returned to my office after a two week vacation, and the box containing my new sensor installed M9 was waiting for me after two weeks short of 4 months.

I sent mine directly to Wetzlar in mid April and was told 3-4 weeks but they have already had it for 5 weeks. I emailed them today and was told it is still in the workshop awaiting sensor replacement as they they not have sensors in stock currently so it will be another 2 to 3 weeks at least.

What is the repair tracking status at the moment, just wondering as mine says in repair and has done since last week. Is it actually in repair or sitting on a work bench next to another two dozen m9s!!!!

My camera can been showing as 'IN REPAIR' since 25.04.2016 (nearly 1 month) ... so that doesn't necessarily mean it is actively being worked on. You camera is now keeping it company at least.

Note that Leica NJ's response might be delayed. I wrote to the general service email at Leica US in New Jersey, which was forwarded to an appropriate person in customer service. However, they appear to be undergoing substantial technical challenges with a transition to a new system. Original email sent on April 15; one reply on May 10 saying that they could indeed clean (and service, if necessary) my M9, to which I replied the next day or so asking for an estimated timeline and shipping instructions; haven't heard back yet about the timeline, although I expressly said that I was in no hurry. They did provide basic shipping instructions, but no label -- again, I didn't indicate a determination to get this done as soon as possible, so that might be why. I'm just going to wait for a while and possibly acquire a backup camera before embracing the black-hole of slow but otherwise reputedly excellent service.

 

My guess is that communicating with Leica Germany might be more expedient. 

 

Is anyone aware of whether they are still offering discounted upgrades in lieu of sensor replacement? That might make the difference between me buying a first or second generation Monochrom as a second camera.

sent my m9p to new jersey the middle of dec 2015 called in march and they said april, called the beginning of may (after numerous calls that i was told i was next to be answered and then i was disconnected) and they said the next friday may 6....called monday and they said it was sent the previous friday june 3 but they didn't have tracking info....still waiting and not too happy with new jersey customer service.

I just got my M9 back today and it took 8 weeks in total sent from Ireland directly to Wetzlar.

 

It was a bit longer that I would have liked but still a top quality service and I'm very grateful to Leica for honouring their commitment to quality by replacing the sensor on a good-will basis on a camera many years out of warranty.
