Crop from 75 to 90 mm in Lr?

It is indeed an excellent and cheap and very underrated lens (and also has the excellent bayonet hood mount system which unfortunately doesn't lock in reverse for storage).

I only sold it because I also had the 4.0/90 Macro-Elmar and I really don't need more than one 90mm lens.

If I had GAS for a longer lens, I would get the wonderful Zeiss 85mm f/4 Tele-Tessar. It is only 11% shorter than 90mm. (I got one to replace a 90mm Tele-Elmarit, which died of an apparent balsam separation (may it rest in peace).)

Agree 100%.

If you crop from 24mp to 16.4 mp, you will also erode image quality of the printed image at larger print sizes.  If you want to maintain 300 dpi for print quality, a 16.4 mp file will have a smaller 300 dpi maximum size than a 24 mp file.  That is why I always strive to do my cropping in the viewfinder rather than in post processing.

I think you mean 300 PPI, not DPI.

One more reason to have a 40+ MP sensor.

I've printed photos from the M9 (18mp) to 5+ feet across and it still holds up... printing a lot of billboards are we?

The context was you replying to another posters comments about cropping and printing. Perhaps you misunderstood the context of what you were replying to?

The context was: avoiding to spend money on a 90mm or 135mm lens when one has a 75mm lens, and still have plenty of MP as per the OP's needs.

The common misconception that MP are only useful if you need to print huge billboards, has been addressed in several other threads.

If you want to jump into the arena, be my guest: Peter sent you the link to the last thread in his previous post above.

Again, you were not replying to the OP's query, but another poster's comment, which was related to printing.

Also Again; most of what I was seeing in that thread was opinion, rather than fact. Far to many "experts" with half or quarter knowledge chiming in to be a truly useful read.

If you'd like me to only address the OP's question then my answer is this: Having both the 75 Cron and 90 Elmarit on the M240, from a print perspective, you'd have to be making very large prints for the drop in the pixel dimensions of your cropped image to be limiting. There you have it, my own anecdotal opinion.

Glad I did, seems full of anecdotal information rather than actual facts but I gave up after 4 pages of opinions so I'm not sure of the relevance.

Sorry.

Trying to be helpful. If you read with a critical eye you'll find a lot of useful information in there. Opinions too of course, which can also be instructive.

You seem rather ready to be dismissive.

The problem with the Internet, is that you don't get to see someone's diplomas and certifications.

The problem with real life, is that you get to see someone's diplomas and certifications... and these don't matter much.

You don't know people, yet you imagine they are less knowledgeable than you are.

That's understandable. Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.

I don't recall saying that I was more knowledgeable than anyone else on the thread, please don't make assumptions.

I don't claim to know more than anyone else, but I am capable of recognizing statements that are incorrect when someone is talking about something that I do know, and I admitted that I only made it past 4 pages because it's a lot to wade through to dig any real information out of it. The problem is that far too many people present opinion as fact, or half-understandings as knowledge. The internet is built on it, or so it would seem.

Now perhaps someone broke the whole thing down into concise facts later on in the thread, but like I've said repeatedly, it's a lot to wade through.

RE: diplomas and certifications, well, let's just say I'm pretty sure you'd have a different opinion about your doctor if you found out they never got a degree in medicine.
