Jeff S Posted April 10, 2016 Share #504 Posted April 10, 2016 Funny.....the reason these types of devices were created was to mimic the gripping technique provided by the traditional film M advance lever. Jeff

Jeff Jeff I like it for the 2nd hot shoe that I like to use for the 21mm viewfinder.....saves shoving your nose into the RF Viewfinder :)
MarkP Posted April 10, 2016 Share #506 Posted April 10, 2016 Exactly, Neil you just hook your thumb behind the film wind on lever to help carry and/or stabilise the camera which is what we all did for years with almost all 35mm film cameras. This device is simply to reproduce this on digital M cameras

I'm still enjoying the film stage - there's lot's of entertainment yet. We've only had the failed wind on so far!
MarkP Posted April 10, 2016 Share #508 Posted April 10, 2016 But the offset is probably too great to use a 21mm finder that far over to the side
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted April 10, 2016 Share #509 Posted April 10, 2016 But the offset is probably too great to use a 21mm finder that far over to the side it worked perfectly on my MM Welcome, dear visitor! Somebody else is using it on a M3 so just curious if anyone here is using it and does/will it impede the cocking mechanism?? Jeff I just had a play with that and I find it difficult to use the cocking handle like a thumbs up. When I put any weight on it it just wants to wind the film on.......confused
IkarusJohn Posted April 10, 2016 Share #512 Posted April 10, 2016 I just had a play with that and I find it difficult to use the cocking handle like a thumbs up. When I put any weight on it it just wants to wind the film on.......confused This just gets better and better. After you've wound the film on, you then bring the camera up to your eye to take a picture. The lever is then a convenient place for your thumb. I'm not quite sure when you would want to rest your thumb on the lever if you haven't wound the film on ...

MarkP Posted April 10, 2016 Share #515 Posted April 10, 2016 Neil, you have the camera shutter cocked when you use the film wind lever as a stabiliser, then it doesn't wind on . Regards, Mark ed. Sorry John you beat me to it!
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted April 10, 2016 Share #516 Posted April 10, 2016 Anyway I'm going to try one on my camera later today and see if the cocking arm fouls on the thins up Like I said I want it for the second hot shoe. Worst case scenario I just get it and get the rig welder to lob the thins up bitty off[emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

gbealnz Posted April 10, 2016 Share #520 Posted April 10, 2016 Yes, but I sort of hoped you'd try to find one rather than butcher a new/good thumbie. I'm sure someone out there has one they no longer need. Gary
