Screen protector?

Anyone using a cover for the LED? I have one on my M9 which minimized damage when I inadvertently swung it into my tripod head. I see nothing at B&H from Giotto or Schott, which I have use on other cameras. And I read thread on this forum that revealed potential damage caused by the adhesive film products.

Your thoughts?

Thanks

David

I don't use screen protectors on any of my devices, I have invisible protection for all my gear, it weighs nothing, it just weighs a bit on my bank account yearly: insurance.

Jip, as do I. But I have never explored if it would pay for cosmetic damage - only theft or loss.

David,

When someone broke the rear screen on my DMR last year, my insurance company paid out for a new camera. When I dropped my M6TTL and 75 lux 12 years ago and broke the mounting ring, my insurers paid for the repairs as well.

That insurance was a wise investment. But scratches on a screen may be regarded as merely cosmetic and not worthy of replacement if the function of the camera is unimpaired. Since I deal with insurance companies all day, just channeling what I think they would say.

Personally, I don't worry about small surface scratches to the screen. When shooting concerts, it's quite hard to "baby" your gear in the Pit or at the side of the stage. Certainly not the same as shooting in a controlled studio environment.

I know. I know. The first cut is the deepest...

Then its called "patina."

I have insurance and it is the ultimate protection and worth every penny...

I once did buy and use the Screen patronus protectors for the LED on  my S2s back in 2012.. The plastic left a film when they were peeled off that was impossible to remove and Leica had to replace the covers.. AVOID those protectors!!!!

Albert,

I read about others who had similar experiences with S cameras. I wonder if there is something about the S glass is incompatible with the usual protectors, or maybe it is the type of protector that is at issue. I have had no such issues with Schott glass covers on my M9. But then, that was glass with an adhesive around the edges - not on the surface.

I've found a good fit is the Giottos Aegis 8321 Schott Glass screen protector, 67.4 x 51.2mm. The S2 screen is 67.5 x 52.5mm. This one is offered to fit Nikon D600, D7100, D800, D800E

This is the second Giottos I've had on the camera, as the original cracked. The pieces peeled off cleanly leaving no residue or scratches.
