I feel like I'm starting to get to grips with B&W conversions from this camera and zoning in on the look I want. I appreciate that it's very LoFi, a bit grungy and wont appeal to most but it's the perfect antidote to the daily work of creating bright and vibrant marketing images. Also, the newly arrived 40mm Nokton is an absolute joy.

Great photo! I absolutely agree with you. I've had my M8 for several years and it is the closest thing to shooting black and white film that I have found. (I still love shooting film as well) Minimal post processing. Not a fan of the higher megapixel monochrome cameras. Great looking color photographs too!

I had felt like I was using the M8 as a route to an M9M but I'm becoming a little less sure each day. This appallingly performing little camera has so much charm and whimsy to it's files, it's hard not to love. And it has the compressed mid tones and those deep, velvety and inky blacks that only the M9M seems to have from the Mono cameras. Maybe it's a CCD thing? Maybe its just from being a dinosaur??

I started the M8 photo thread years ago, and eventually sold my M8 after I purchased the M9 Monochrom.  Less than 3 years ago I sold that camera when I purchased a Q2M.  I'm  happy to share that I picked up a used M8 recently.  It's great to be shooting with it again.  Here's a couple of shots from last weekend taken in Lisbon, where I currently live.  I shot these using a 28mm Voigtlander Ultron f/2 ASPH lens.

Cheers!

From today’s walk. Light was flat, the weather dreadful but I wanted to try out the m8. I most probably will photograph solely b/w with it, and am still refining my LR preset.

The house is located in my village.

Consider whether or not to use uv cut filter.  I kept mine on, color and B&W, as acuity was slightly better with latter.

I am extremely happy with this image. It’s my neighbor and I adore his look (we were discussing which kind of wood was his logwood). A 10mp sensor is so different than a 60mp one, and for this kind of photography I prefer a lower res sensor.

The lens is the 28mm nokton. I opted for this one as it is affordable and has 1.5 aperture which is convenient with the m8.

Ok…. So this is ISO 320, hardly any light, voigtlander NC 35 f1.4 SC

I don’t know why but I love this photo. Please don’t hate me for posting it here. There is so much perfection in the world now that I think we’re in need of the M8, the CCD, the ILFORDs and whatever else brings in nostalgia.

It's a picturesque moment. But the pronounced graininess looks to me like it was created at an ISO level of 3200, not 320 as you wrote. Unless, of course, the noticeable noise comes from post-processing. Either way, I fell in love with the spirit of this shot.
